i had these characters from an old mock project i did in college, and i wanted to put them to a new design. since they all look weird and spacy, i thought they could be like imaginary friends, so hence the deranged design. hope yous like it.

All of these characters represent a portion of Khutaza’s mind….thats pretty scary, but damn cool :D

1. What were you thinking when you first started the design?
I had created these characters for a mock college project I did a couple years ago, and I always wanted to expand them into other designs, as I still hold them close to my heart.

2. What was the original concept idea?
The original concept is that each character represents a different “personality” in my mind, like a visuals representative of what multiple personalities look like, as I think we all have multiple “personalities” or “personas” to a certain extent, especially me!!

3. How long did it take you to complete your piece
The completed piece from beginning to end took about 3.5 to 4 hours to finish.

4. Did any other artwork inspire you to create this?
At the time I was looking at a lot of “alternative” illustration styles at college, not mainstream commercial illustration. I can’t remember the guys names now, but we had an amazing resource of books and journals that I would page through for inspiration. The characters were entirely created by me, they were in no way ripped off from other artists, I don’t believe in that. But I was inspired by other artists.

5. Do you think this design reflects your state of mind from when it was created?
Ya. pretty much, I was experimenting with different styles at the time, so I was in a way I was exploring my multiple personalities. :)

6. Is this your normal style or an experiment?
It was more an experiment, as I was trying to draw rough, discordant, thick line illustrations as opposed to clean-cut slick marvel type drawings. I thoroughly enjoyed it though.

7. Who do you dedicate this design to?
I dedicate the drawing to those multiple personalities in all of us!!

8. If you could change anything in this design what would it be?
I don’t really know. maybe as someone suggested, keep the design as only one illustration per t-shirt, and print multiple t-shirts with different characters, like a series of prints.

9. What kind of person do you see wearing this design?
Anyone who relates to the design, really.

10. What other Springleap designers would you like to collaborate with?
DustyRich, I am really liking his stuff, a really talented young lad.

really really dig that shirt design (it’s so me lol) i knew i was really different when my parents started looking at me funny while singing “im so happy cos today i found my friends, they’re in my head…” (Nirvana) this shirt really fits in with the whole thing too, and will go well- i always wear my Nirvana chain round my neck (the smiley face one with the crossed-out eyes) This shirt is so Nirvana :) they’d wear it im sure…. ;) shoutBack on 8/12/08 by killerminibus
