Joserosero Interview with joserosero by DuncanBoxie

Joserosero is a designer who stands head and shoulders above most artist I’ve seen.
His work is well thought out and intricate, and deserves the attention it receives from artists of all kinds.

1. So tell me about where you grew up, have you lived there all your life or have you bounced around a lot?
I’m very glad you asked this question. I was born in Bogotá in the beautiful country of Colombia, Latin America. Nevertheless I grew up in another city, in the same country though, called San Juan de Pasto, it is smaller than Bogota, but you can find more artistic expressions here; many people of all ages are always trying to improve their skills to achieve a better level of work.
Every year (3,4,5 and 6 of January) the city celebrates a very big carnival called “Negrosy Blancos” which is the maximum highlight of creative expressions, because all artists make huge floats that carry a lot of different kinds of forms (human, animal, plants, etc.).
At the same time many people make up small groups of 50 to 100 people and represent different dances and music and they all make a long procession across the city.
It’s very important for all of the artists to always make sure that they preserve the ancient Andean culture.
This show of creativity and imagination has always been a powerful source of inspiration to me.

2. When you were a child what did you want to grow up to be and what would you say is your dream job now?
When I was a child, I always hope to be an artist, because of all the different artists expressions I’ve seen.
Now I think that I’m on the way to achieving this, a way that never ends, an infinite way where we always grow up.

3. Have you got a big family, how many?
I have a small family living with me in Bogota. My mom, a big brother, and a little sister.
I’m in the middle.

4. What is without doubt the best experience of your life?
For me this question is the same as “What is the best song you’ve hear in your life”, I cannot answer because there a lot of “best” experiences that represents mile stones in my life.

5. Would you consider yourself a party animal or would you rather curl up with a good book?
In latin America, you can experience both worlds with no problem.
I’m happy reading a good book but also going to a good party. ;)

6. If you could hang out with any star for a day who would it be?
Mmmm…I think all of us as humans are equal, all with our own hopes and dreams.
Some of us have the good luck to be able to be what we want to be and for that reason they’re stars.
They also don’t care if they get recognized or not.
With that made clear and returning to the question, I suppose for one day I’d like to hang with Julio Cortazar who is a very very excellent writer, and with Jozaphine from Springleap.

7. Who would you consider to be the greatest influence on your actions?
I can’t single out any one single person, because there is a lot of people, many situations and people of my family that are always in my mind and makes me remember many things. Whatever, I begin obviously by all my family, and from there many European artists, like Goya, Lautrec, Joe Sorren, Daumier, Doré…and Colombian artists like Caballero, Roda, Julian de Narvaez, Rodez, Alfonso Alvarez… It will be an infinite list of names.

8. Describe your artistic style in one word.
Thought

9. What music are you listening to at the moment?
I’m listening to “Volaras” from the Andean music group called ILLAPU.

10. If you could get away with any one crime what would it be?
I think I would steal any piece of art of Toulouse Lautrec.
