SpeedTrap - Thumbnail SpeedTrap by TokyoGoGo

SpeedTrap The Stunt Mouse…. wanted to do a stunt tee and originally thought of the term “stunted growth” and how i could illustrate that. but then the focus changed to death defying stunts and of coarse, Evil Knievel. So Yeah. whats more death defying then a mouse jumping a tiny bike over a heap of mousetraps!

This one goes out to all you Dare Devils out there who just say NO in the face of danger and adversity.
Go Go Tokyo!

1. What were you thinking when you first started the design?

I was just trying to come up with something a bit different really, something that people could relate to and get a bit of a laugh out of it too. The whole “death defying” aspect was a great place to start though!

2. What does this design make you feel?

This is definitely one of my favorite illustrations to date. Often I get over work as soon as I finish it, But I think this was the first image of a slightly new style for me.

3. How long did it take you to complete your piece?

A little longer then I thought it would! All round it must’ve taken a couple days. Working on and off though, the tricky bit was getting the perspective of the mouse and the bike to match up nicely.

4. Did any other artwork inspire you to create this?

Not really, I think the inspiration came from a love of stunts in general, fmx, and those gnarly “How the crap did they survive that!?!” videos.

5. Do you think this design reflects your state of mind from when it was created?

I guess so, always good seeing people laughing. I try and throw a bit of humour in most of my illustrations though.

6. Is this your normal style or an experiment?

A bit of both hey, I had always wanted to pull the background colour into a design and use it as the shadows instead of just the outlines. So Speedtrap was a good experiment for just that.

7. Who do you dedicate this design to?

Evel Knievel of course, although after watching that Richard Hammond special he just seems like a grumpy old dude!

8. If you could change anything in this design what would it be?

Nah I’m pretty stok’d with it hey.

9. What kind of person do you see wearing this design?

Someone with a sense of humour that wants to be a bit different, unique. Maybe a bit of a daredevil?

10. If you could pick any artist to recreate this piece for you who would it be?

David Mann, if the dude was still alive.
