Wow! What a week!

The Sanlam South African fashion Week was one awesome experience! I would have loved to have kept everyone up to date but due to numerous technical problems I was not able to connect to the web.

Having grown up in the fashion industry it was always a dream of mine to be a part of the South African Fashion Week. Arriving on the first day was quite intimidating, the names, the faces, the attitudes, the egos all had a part to play. However, this soon fell away as my side kick for the week, Eran, made me settle right at home.

Setting up our stand was quite a mission. We pride ourselves on having all our shirts always neatly folded and in pristine condition. This was probably why Eran kept volunteering to go steam the shirts in female models change room! Once we had everything sorted and we were well and truly settled it was business time and boy was it intense. The new range of Springleap tees was catching everyone’s eye. I honestly think between the two of us we must have told at least a Thousand people about Springleap.

Networking was a big part of our trip and some of the contacts that were made will only help Springleap grow in a positive way. From the editors of major newspapers to fashion directors of the biggest men’s magazine in South Africa, everyone was impressed and drawn to the quality product that Springleap offers. I must say, I felt proud representing something so cool and fresh.

Now for some of the more interesting bits…Eran was interviewed by Urban Brew, a local television programme that focuses on the youth in South Africa. Watching the interview take place was quite an experience and I have to say Eran handled it like a pro. You can catch the interview at 9pm on SABC 1 this Wednesday. Now for my 30 seconds of fame! I was asked to appear in a Revlon advert that will be shown locally and abroad. Hopefully it will help me with the ladies out there! We got some really good shots with me in the RGB Springleap shirt. The advert will be on television in two months time.

It was awesome meeting some of you Springleapers out there. Allison, who produced the Cthulu design in our very first competition, was amazing to talk to.

The design talent we have in South Africa is incredible. Kept at it guys, your work rocks! Once again, I have to say that The Sanlam South African Fashion Week was an amazing experience. I have no doubt that one day Springleap will be showing at the biggest week in South African fashion.

In light of recent events I have decided to change the way I do my voting. Usually I do it under the influence of so many external influences that seem to have clung to me over the years. So I have gone back in my head to a time when they werent around. I remember a time when waking up at 7:30am in the morning to watch KTV pwer addition was the best way to start a weekend, when playing Super Contra on Nintendo was the most violence I would ever see. How will this help my voting you may ask? well I am talking about the feeling that it gave me, a feeling that very few things give me now days. Its like being blind and seeing for the first time. I will judge on that basis, does this shirt gimme that goood old feeling…Now I cant jsut go voting like mother teresea on weed, and give everyone 5 (CAUSE LETS BEHONEST MOST OF THE DESIGNS DESERVE IT). No I will also judge on another feeling that I also got recently. I tried to play those old sega games. the excitement was there for about 2min…So my bases for my design winners are:

Does your design give me that sick flick blind colour feeling…and does it last…Gimme a design like that and thats how you will get a 5 from me…

I will also work on my comments, as I realise now that they have been “controversal” in the past. And no this doesnt mean I will be a bob marley meets Ghnadi kinda commentator. I will still be brutaly honest but I will try throw about of constructiveness in with it… So enjoy hte silence that I have given to springleap this month (lots of too much to do on my side), and I will be back with full fury in just a few days…

So let me know what do you guys do when it comes to voting..do you close your eyes before viewing the design so your mind isnt clattered with past designs…let me know what works best for you…So before I end up writing a book its your turn to comments on my comment…and maybe let me know what you did ages ago that gave you that feeling that it doesnt do it for you so much now days. It might be a person, a pet or just a song. But share it and who knows you could start a new voting style…

ok i wont, they pulled my designs and gonna release them come the 5th, so i’ll see you then looking forward to it.

that little birdie must learn to hush it a bit…I have been lank busy and I almost thought I wasnt going to make it. But with some encouraging words from a springleap member I was able to get it into gear… I wont be voting yet for the new stuff I will savour that moment for later in the month. So enjoy the silence from my side and I will be back with a vengence soon, as soon as I have my ducks in a row…

Doping?.....Whoa Nelly!!!!!!

No it’s not a Hoochiemamma design…this one is about doping in the Olympics….of the equestrian variety.
Two days ago I read an article about a German horse that was busted for having a banned substance in its blood…this came the day before the jumping event it was supposed to take part in.
The German team of Christian Ahlmann and his horse Coster were surprised at being disqualified as their horse was cleared by the team medic before they even left German…well I guess a lot can happen in a few hours.
At the last Olympics in Athens the German team were stripped of a Gold medal for the same type thing….surely they wouldn’t be busted for the same thing again?!

The day after the German team members were disqualified from the Olympics, a further 3 teams were disqualified for a banned substance….”a”, does that mean it was all the same drug?
Ninjas are now at the top of my list for possible saboteurs, I can see them climbing into the horse boxes and injecting them with the dubious drug…why? well, for the money of course.
Funny how a big bunch of medal hopefuls all get their horses busted on doping charges….coincidence maybe? There are NO coincidences dammit.
The winning teams were America and Canada…both of which have the capital to pay off a ninja clan.

Ok, but seriously this is a real blow to equestrian events at the Olympics, I know so many people who raise their eyebrows at the idea that horse riding should even be considered an Olympic event…I personally think that horse/animal related sports at the Olympics is doff.
It’s a celebration of human achievement and while people do use sporting equipment like say a javelin or a hockey stick as a “tool”, I don’t think an animal is quite the same.

I may be waaaay off base here, I’d love to know what you all think of this one.
Do you think horse events should be part of the Olympics?

Haha yeah something like that.
The horses should stand on the podium while the riders clap from the coaches corner….and maybe cry a little.

I think its about as smart as the winter olympics ‘biathlon’...which combines skiing with shooting a rifle…Whats the actual point???

Animals in the Olympics just doesn’t seem right to me. Polo players might disagree, but it isn’t them actually running on the field, they just steer.
