Springleap.com in association with Vodacom , bring you a competition that explores just how important these connections can be.

Every single day we connect with people.

Sometimes via SMS, email or social media – we seldom stop to give this amazing phenomenon a second thought!

The ability to reach out and communicate with people all across the world, instantly, is truly a marvel of the modern age.

Only a few years ago this was a work of science fiction!

THIS is the core concept behind our latest theme competition, ‘Power to You’.

It’s time to get creative. What does connectivity mean to you? The mission: Create a design that shows just how important digital networks are for our daily lives and illustrates the underlying slogan : Power to You.

THE BRIEF:

Connectivity is power. Imagine living a life without chatting to your mates, without SMS and email, without Facebook and Twitter, without all those things that you take for granted. By connecting you in all of these ways and more, Vodacom gives you power.

Your brief for this competition is to express this visually – encapsulate our guiding principle where ‘connectivity is power’ into a design that captures the imagination.

The idea is that it’s about you and not Vodacom, so no logos and nothing corporate. We’re giving the power to you on this one (ha) so go mad.

THE PRIZES:

Vodacom have put up an awesome prize of US$1250 [or R10 000] for the winner of the Power to You competition.

The winning design will be transformed into a t-shirt and will be sold across the world through Springleap.com’s online store.

THE RULES:

1. You know the drill NO OBSCENITY, NO HATE SPEECH, ONLY ORIGINAL WORKS …all that jazz.
2. You can submit up to 5 designs so go wild! The more designs you submit the greater chances you have of winning!
3. Winners will now be chosen using votes as an indicator. The top 10 voted designs will get the golden stamp of approval and go in for review. The final verdict will come down to our esteemed design panel here at Springleap in conjunction with Vodacom.
4. Standard Springleap terms and conditions apply over and above
5. Vodacom and Springleap reserve the rights to request the high-resolution artwork of any entry submitted into the “Power to you” competition for non-commercial benefit such as an even media covering the process – but do not own the rights to any of the designs except the winner and thus may not print these runner-up designs for commercial resale unless by consent and arrangement in writing with the designer concerned.

Voting starts: 24 February 2011
Voting ends: 25 March 2011
Winner is announced: 28 March 2011

NB: Please be aware that we are running things slightly differently than usual.
We will be having 1 week closed submissions (no public voting).
The remainder of the competition period is open to submissions , with voting open to the public , submissions will still be accepted until the closing date.

Basically this competition will run a little different to how we normally do it.

We have one week of closed submissions

For the rest of the competition you will be able to submit AND vote until March 25, 2011

So simultaneous submissions and voting after 1 week

Hope that clears up the confusion?

Hi there all you Entrepreneur designers .

As many of you know the winner of our thrilling Entrepreneur competition was to be announced on Tuesday , but the name was not released!

The reason for this was that Raizcorp was suitably blown away by the amount of high quality design that came through and has since formulated an awesome idea for the winner announcement.

On Tuesday Raizcorp narrowed the list of finalists down to a selection of 3 outstanding choices .

So, what will happen now!
Well, to truly give this competition the exposure it deserves, Raizcorp will be holding an exhibition in February up in Johannesburg .

All of the designs will be blown up to poster size , with the artists names attached.
The top 3 designs will of course be taking center stage!

The final decision will be made by a panel of three judges .

The names of the three top designers will only be released closer to the time.
So you will have to wait a bit longer, but it will be well worth it.

We are expecting some huge exposure for all of the Entrepreneur entrants.

More details on how everything will go down will be announced very soon.

I just realized I put “strongly AGREE” in my rant…

No hard feelings kingslip…I’m just gonna have my army of 200 email you spam links to tranny porn and we can call it even.

I’m not saying that the exhibition is bad. I’m only saying what kind of exposure do the artists actually get. Who goes to this exhibition? People that might want to hire one of us to design for their brand/company?

I wonder what kind of coverage will springleap provide. I personally would love to see some sort of video and/or pics of the event…to show what exactly is going on and happening.

Kharamzero does raise a good question, would springleap let a submission get printed if it was printed before as a poster for a non profit? (or something similar as to the circumstances we are in)

As far as the competition changing i still feel the same way, the goal posts may be in the same place, but now there are more obstacles to get around/over to reach that goal. And the analogy of adapting to the customer, once a contract is signed usually there isn’t a lot of deviation from it. The adaption is usually made to the design to suit the customer.

good stuff Kharmazero, as long as SP is not calling for additional entries, i believe this competition to be the same one we all signed up for. The goal posts haven’t really shifted, the client will still get what he wants and we will still get a winner.

well, a lot to read, and it’s a hot forum thread.
Pesonnally i think the exhibition is a good thing, who knows what can happen?will we got a plane ticket to visit it?yes , first class please hahahaha
Then i was thinking that 3 designs were going to be printed, so i’m a little bit disappointed.
Then who will be the judges?People with some light in the area?Hope so.
About the rules, for me they have not been totally changed, just extended. After all, Springleap and Raizcorp are “customers“and as a designer i must adapt, right?
Perhaps the use of the 3 selected designs should be precised. A poster ok, but one piece , 100 , 1000.Sold?Given for free?Just for promotion?The important point for me is: if the 2 non winning designs are printed for more use than the exhibition, this could become problematic.A question to Springleap team, would you accept to print a design that has already been used , even for a non profit event ?
Subburban, go on posting when you think something is not right.Kingslip,i laughed reading your post, but that is rude man.
Finally we’re experiencing a designer entrepreneur field no one has depicted in the competition:contracts problems.

It has nothing to do with my 200 closest friends…I don’t even have 200 close friends. I can count my number of close friends on both hands.

But if you are insinuating that anytime I have won it was not because I had a strong submission it was only because I have “200 close friends,” I have to strongly agree.

If everyone else is fine with contest rules changing in the middle of a contest then ignore me. That is my grief…I’m also not scared to speak up and let my displeasure be known, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WINNING OR LOSING If I don’t win a competition I don’t win…that’s the way it goes. (to be honest I don’t think my design will win or is even in the top 3…there’s 4 other designs in this comp that I feel blow mine away!!)

I’m just saying that other contest sites don’t just up and change the rules in the middle of a comp. Be upfront and say this is how the contest is going to go down.

If i come off as bitter or grumpy then I apologize, because I’m not…I’m actually kind of shocked that none of the other artists feel this way…unless they are scared to speak up for fear of their design not winning.

Again this is not to be taken as a disrespectful post towards springleap. I’m just voicing my opinion.

First off thanks for your comment, we appreciate the feedback.

Obviously we don’t like it when our community are upset about something. Our apologies about the issues…there will still only be one winner though.

Eran has assured me that he will speak to Raizcorp today to find out exactly when we will find out the winners and details for the event.

I see this as good and bad…

It’s awesome that Raizcorp was so STOKED on all the submissions and are going to put on this exhibition in February…but i don’t think that it is right that the rules to the contest suddenly change…

I understand it’s their prize money and when we submit the artwork we agree to the terms of springleap (which essentially says you guys can do whatever you want)…

I feel like it was known that this exhibition was going to take place because on the original rules/guidelines it states that “Raizcorp and Springleap reserve the rights to request the high-resolution artwork of any entry submitted into the “I am an Entrepreneur” competition for non-commercial benefit such as an even media covering the process” Why not be upfront and say if the designs are up to and or over and above our expectations this is how the winner will be selected.

I feel like there are hoops being added that the designers have to keep jumping through in order to win. Not only do we have such tough competition from such great designers like sebasebi, Qimstudio, kharmazero, DeeDeekid, and warholbot. (not to mention a lot of the new folks…this small list is just the designers that i am keeping in mind when putting my designs together) Be we also have to impress the springleap panel and with these big money competitions a 3rd party sponsor…and NOW a panel of three judges at the exhibition

So I am curious when will the top 3 designers be notified that they will have artwork in the exhibition…other than soon?

What kind of exposure are these artists getting. I only ask because I don’t think that just having a poster print of the art is exposure…now a profile and info on how to contact the artist and maybe a few other pieces of their work for people to see would be AMAZING or some sort of handouts with the URL to an online portfolio…etc.

Anyways this has gotten WAY to long, but I don’t want this to be perceived as me being negative or unappreciative, I just don’t like it when something is published and posted to happen a certain way and then it changes…I am very happy to be a part of the springleap community and appreciate all the great opportunities to make a significant amount of money off my artwork.

Ladies and gentlemen .

Springleap and Raizcorp are excited to announce the 3 finalist of our Entrepreneur competition.

Congratulations go out to MEKAZOO, CHUCKY and NEN101!

MEKAZOO’s design entitled The Bait expresses the essence of having a great idea and being able to ‘capture’ the attention of not only consumers , but also potential investors .
This design is the entry bursting with the most character power by far!

Well known Springleap designer, CHUCKY , blew us away with his Keep Working submission.
This piece not only addresses the Entrepreneur theme perfectly, but also incorporates humorous parody and clever design elements to create a visually powerful design.

Passion = Results by NEN101 is a design that effortlessly conveys its message!
Its design elements are clear and effective and show how true entrepreneurial success can only be attained through passion . You can have the best idea in the world, but if you don’t have passion and drive, there is no way you will get the results you desire .

We are so happy for these designers and hope that the community will help support them as they go head to head for the grand prize .

There have been a few questions from the community about the exhibition itself.

Below I have tried to clear up as much uncertainty as possible. If you still have questions please leave a comment , or email me directly at duncan@springleap.com

First up, designers wanted to know if their contact details would be available at the exhibition, so that potential clients could get in touch with them.
Indeed, along with their large blown-up design image and name, we will also provide the appropriate contact details .
These will be sent through to Raizcorp shortly.

Plane tickets and accommodation will not be provided.
The three winners are most certainly invited , as well as any of the other Entrepreneur designers .

If you would like to attend , please let me know. The finalized date will be announced shortly after all arrangements have been made.

The winner will be chosen by a panel of 3 judges . This will include Allon Raiz , CEO of Raizcorp and two other high profile Entrepreneurs. Watch this space!

In order to raise interest in the exhibition, Raizcorp will be putting together an invitation which will be sent out to the press and other potential guests .

Posters of the designs will be printed and used for the event, but are for display purposes only and not to be sold.

Considering the level of amazing design that we saw for the Entrepreneur competition, our 3 top designers will no doubt be ecstatic about having their work taking centre stage at the exhibition.
