Hey Guys –

Firstly, just because someone does a parody of a brand, there is no reason why they cannot submit at springleap – ultimately it’s up to the voters to decide what they want.

It’s also totally legal – Laff it off went to court on this one more than once and won on every occasion – so legal precedence has been set that it’s ok. And I think that is the right decision for the following reason :

1. The brand being ripped off is actually getting more exposure for free
2. Get over it already! – some of them are actually funny.
3. you cannot police free speech and thought – and no – this does not mean we will allow profanity on this website – I cannot police your thoughts, but I can tell you what we are and are not going to have going down here.

REGARDING PUMBA

I think that when one is doing these sort of designs, it’s up to the designer to exercise responsibility in research. I tried KarmaKompanion’s method of searching on google, and on google images it appeared twice on the same page.

So I have a dilemma on my hands. These designs are far too similar, but I also truly believe that KingC is being hones and truthful about not ripping the design off. After all the silhouette of Pumba is different.

KingC, on the other hand – I think that the behavior of KarmaKompanion and other such members is absolutely exemplary.

I do not believe that they are looking to “do anyone in”. It’s a simple aspect that they remember seeing something somewhere before and go with that feeling to investigate further.

Furthermore we have had BLATANT cases on springleap of people ripping off design elements which we did not pick up, but rather our awesome proactive community got involved and informed us – saving us grace and also helping us make sure that we support all artists EVERYWHERE from being ripped off – this is a personal crusade for me.

I think you are taking this matter FAR too personally when it is clearly not a personal stab at you.

Read what KarmaKompanion said :Heya King C Cool illustration, but I had a feeling I had seen this before somewhere…

You submit a lot of designs at springleap and are always very involved – you should have researched this more thoroughly as you have been privy to discussions of this sort before where someone may or may not have ripped off a design (bearing in mind the statement I made earlier that I truly do not believe that you ripped anyone off).

I will be considering the matter today and making a final decision on the design.

Regarding the rip off of a brand – I have no problems with that as the law supports it and it is still an original idea/thought. It’s up to the community to decide if they want it or not.

Jees guys….I had no idea that there were tees already made like this. Myself and ome friends always kidded around with pumba and i put it design.

The sad thing is that there is people who go into research to try and find something just because people like my design you want to try and get it banned that pathetic.

I had no idea I thought it was my creation, well it is.

Alot of guys designs on this site i have seen before but they’ve changed it so I say nothing , but i had no idea that it was done before

Heres a tee of it actually printed…
I think regardless if the designer didn’t research the design, a parody of a design still in some courts of law is still infringement, the big word of the day is “inspiration”. Either being inspired by PUMA or PUMBA, its still straddling the gray zone..and to be honest I like the originals better anyway, look a lot more cleaner..
my .06 cents
