Here is a really great look into the life and motivation of BeeryMethod. He seems like a really cool dude.
1. So tell me about where you grew up, have you lived there all your life or have you bounced around a lot?
I grew up in a small rural community outside of Chicago, Illinois. Life in the country was tough. There is a lot of time to yourself as a child growing up in the countryside and you learn responsibility quick. I think that is why I kept myself busy doodling and drawing constantly as a youth. Can’t say that hurt me any. I love my solitude nowadays, its when my best work comes through unhindered. I’ve lived all over the States since high school, so traveling and adapting to new culture and climate is something all too familiar. I gotta say my heart is in the West Coast USA!
2. When you were a child what did you want to grow up to be and what would you say is your dream job now?
When I was real young I was obsessed with marine life and anything alien to the human element. I really wanted to be the next Jack Cousteau and explore unfathomable depths of the ocean. Since I spent most of my time in school sketching all over my homework I decided maybe the life of an artist is for me. I now work as an brand image consultant, designer, illustrator, and do commissioned work to boot, so I am in all corners of my dream job!
3. Have you got a big family, how many?
I have 2 brothers and 1 sister. I’m grew up in the middle and was the brat younger brother and over bearing older brother all in one.
4. What is without doubt the best experience of your life?
Believe it or not, ART SCHOOL is definitely up there as one of the best experiences of my life. Nothing compares to being in that sort of environment where your meeting tons of people like yourself. It brought out a very competitive side in me and also allowed me to appreciate all forms of art. Imagine being thrown into a building or studio chalk full of peers who you will some day go on to compete with for jobs. It was absolutely inspiring and was a constant energy that fed my creative drive through my education. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
5. If you could have any super power what would it be?
If I could harness a super power it would without a doubt be something like projecting my wild imagination into a tangible reality. Being an artist is as close as this gets since we are actually doing that in some form or another. Sometimes I have these insane visions of how I see myself working out an image and doubly try to project those vibes into my process. When I start creating something that can be approached from several different angles I sometimes have to just let everything form on its own and the end result isn’t always what I envisioned it to be. This for me is the double edged sword in creating. Mistakes often times go to use and sometimes the unknown element of creativity is the most rewarding. Although, at times I have this picture in my minds eye and I can’t always get it out just as my head is spinning it.
6. If you could hang out with any star for a day who would it be?
If I could hang with any star for a day it would be Salvador Dali. Above all other surrealists I adore his strange sense of life and how he made an impact in the art realm with his movement. After seeing his work in person I feel like I know him already and would just like to sit down and listen to the man ramble, or better yet be guest to his studio and watched like a phantom as he worked. The biggest stars are CREATIVES!
7. What makes the world go round?
This may sound cliche, but ART makes the world go round! Could you imagine how dull and lifeless our world would seem without galleries, festivals, billboards, music, film, theatre, and all the visual spice that dices up our world. As a matter of fact, what could we possibly know of past cultures or even ourselves without it? Civilization as we know it today would be in a huge identity crisis without the aid of visual and audio arts.
8. What makes you a better person than the average man on the street?
I like to think that simply thinking about the world around me differently and then going home and recreating it makes me more aware than the average. My guess is that when the sheep go out to pasture they tend not to think too hard about what’s on the other side of the fence.
9. What music are you listening to at the moment?
At the moment I am listening to a couple US bands, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Fleet Foxes, and MGMT. When I’m working a 12 hour day in front of the Mac I simply put it on shuffle so at the end of the day I’m not totally burnt on my newest tracks.
10. Do you think there is an afterlife, what kind do you expect to find?
I think we travel as the same vital energy that we exhibit here on this plane in the afterlife. Once this energy is released from it’s husk here, part of it expands to combine with old and new energies that are being born into life on this plane. One of my reasons for believing this is that there are times when I am working on a drawing or a painting and there is some nostalgic trigger effect. Usually I know my bounds and capabilities and am always trying to expand upon my skill trade. Though, there are times when a spark of some external genius kicks in almost intuitively. It is rare, but I can’t explain how I achieved something through my work and experimentation. This I believe is a result of a passing energy picked up by a sensitivity through an almost meditational state when I am deep in my work mode.
