He’s the bear that they didn’t make cute kiddies programs about… There’s nothing magical about him; and you know what? He doesn’t care.

I figured this shirt would be favoured more by girls than guys, so I completed the look with a powder blue background. I reckon guys already have a much bigger selection of cool tee’s to choose from in stores… so this is for all the chicks out there who wish that the stores had as many cool girls’ tees as they do for guys. (And to the guys: when you’re rating this tee consider how much your girlfriend/sister would like to wear it.)

This bear just doesn’t care, have a look and see why ;)

1. What were you thinking when you first started the design?
1. I was thinking: Marshmallows are best when braaied, mmm I feel like eating braaied marshmallow now, maybe we should organize a bring-and-braai, no, the weather’s not so great for braaing, I like this weather we’ve been having, I’m so in the mood for winter… haha, actually I can’t remember what I was thinking.

2. What was the original concept idea?
2. I wanted to go for a cartoon spoof of some kind right from the start – I love that sort of thing; plus I have a bit of a dark/dry sense of humour… after a bit a thinking I came up with Don’t Care Bear. I liked it coz I used to love the Care Bears as a kid; and I didn’t have to change the wording/name much so it was still easily recognizable.

3. How long did it take you to complete your piece?
3. Didn’t take too long, maybe a couple hours, I drew the bear over about three times until I was happy with it. I didn’t want it to look like a Care Bear coz they’re just way too cute and cheerful looking to not care.

4. Did any other artwork inspire you to create this?
4. I guess you could compare it with an Invader Zim sort of look, I wanted to go for an emo style coz it would be fitting for the concept, so I browsed through a lot of different stuff to get an idea of the style that I wanted.

5. Do you think this design reflects your state of mind from when it was created?
5. No, just my sense of humour.

6. Is this your normal style or an experiment?
6. I don’t really have a normal style yet, so it’s all a bit experimental, but I am liking this style. I’d also only recently got my Wacom pen tablet so that also influenced my style greatly.

7. Who do you dedicate this design to?
7. Ummmm, I’ll dedicate this to my sister, for all the Care Bears episodes and movies we watched together.

8. If you could change anything in this design what would it be?
8. Maybe I’d use a little more colour in the text, like a different shade of blue for the word Bear. Some people have said that they don’t like wearing pale blue, but it fits the design best, so even now I wouldn’t change that.

9. What kind of person do you see wearing this design?
9. People who like fun, graphic tees; anyone who used to watch the Care Bears; mostly girls, but also guys who aren’t insecure about their manliness.

10. How can art save the world?
10. I’ll have to think about that one… it’s too deep for me right now.
