High Five? by berrijuse
Why do Disney characters only have 4 fingers? Why? WHY?
Poor Mickey could never understand why people called it a high five… what did they mean by five? Hmmmm.
High Five?: an indepth look. with berrijuse by DuncanBoxie
This is one hilarious design, just take 5 seconds to think about it and you will laugh too :D
1. What were you thinking when you first started the design?
1. Mickey Mouse has a really irritating voice.
2. What was the original concept idea?
2. Again with the cartoon spoofs… I wanted to do something on the four finger phenomenon (I still don’t understand why they did that). At first I was thinking along the lines of cartoons can’t give you the finger and is it still a zap if you only have four fingers (hey, maybe that’s why they only give them four fingers – revelation!), but I didn’t want a tee with a huge zap sign on it and it would’ve taken too much text to explain it. I got the high five idea from the little slugs in Flushed Away: near the end when the day is saved and everyone is cheering, the one slug says excitedly to the other, “High five!”, and then looks all disappointed when he realises they can’t high five. It’s the best part of the movie.
3. How long did it take you to complete your piece?
3. This one was pretty quick (couple of hours) as the design itself is fairly simple… except for getting the text to curve along the path, which doesn’t work so well in Photoshop, so I had to do it in CorelDraw and then import it back into Photoshop.
4. Did any other artwork inspire you to create this?
4. This design was inspired by the absurdity of Mickey Mouse.
5. Do you think this design reflects your state of mind from when it was created?
5. Nope, it’s not that deep.
6. Is this your normal style or an experiment?
6. Somewhat experimental, but it seems to be a developing trend.
7. Who do you dedicate this design to?
7. I dedicate this to my husband, coz the slugs were also his favourite part of the movie.
8. If you could change anything in this design what would it be?
8. Maybe change the text to white or the yellow from the circle – people have complained that it’s too difficult to read on the brown background. It looked fine on my monitor, but I don’t know for sure cos I don’t have a pantone chart.
9. What kind of person do you see wearing this design?
9. Anyone with a sense of humour.
10. How can art save the world?
10. Ditto.
