I’d have wanted a big-ass print on the front of the shirt. Well crafter. Only thing I’m not mad on is the positioning on the shirt. Otherwise, one-colour print + retro arcade + shirt colour = win for me. Heck, I’ll give you 5.
Man, I love this so, but the overlay you put in Photoshop I’m assuming = not really working for me. Kind of dark man! Still, the lines and image are just too lovely for words. 5. If it wins, please, I think its got to be made lighter. Also, the blockish format is a little too regular and square for me, more loose and irregular would have been nice. Nice one man. 5.
I also dig the eyes. They’re like emeralds or something. My money’s on this for the win.
Helvetica = puke in my mouth. I was taught to throw Helvetica and Arial out the window for font selections because they’re the most widely used and ‘safe’ fonts. To be honest, I don’t know the original movie poster. I haven’t even watched the movie. So for someone not familiar with rosemary’s baby, this just makes me think ‘blehhh’. Makes me think of clipart. Its too simple man. Concept’s not strong (I may be wrong because as you know, I know nothing about rosemary’s baby) execution’s not strong, look, all I’m saying it doesn’t grab me. It looks like I went into Sandton Stationary and Print with an A4 design on my USB drive and asked them to do a transfer onto a shirt for me. Ugh. LIke a straight A4 block print transfer. Then I’d get the shirt and think ‘Man. I probably shouldn’t have made the design so rectangular.’
But hey, if the original poster used helvetica, and the idea is that its funny to actually say that the baby in the pram is rosemary’s baby for whatever reason, maybe people familiar with the concept will dig it and give you top scores.
Lose the text buddy. YEEEARGH! Why, why, why. The Afrikaans limits it tremendously and its totally detrimental to the piece. Could work, but I think the lady would really have to be lying down, and the placement and look of the text just isn’t working. I’d just keep the ‘jy le en ek go’ part of it, but make the LE and GO more contrasted with the other text to make it stand out more. But really, just scrap the text.
Great illo by the way. Also great on a red shirt. Ha ha ha. Just the image is enough. I’d image Laugh it Off prinning a shirt like this.
I wouldn’t mind pimping this shirt at all. For what its worth, this and the fox shirt are my current faves for this compo. I somehow think this is Springleap’s kind of vibe and they’ll print this though. Big-a$$ print man. Woop.
Yep, its awesome. 5.
Awesome. A worthy win.
The Jellyfish shirt I’m referring to is JELLYFISH BLAME by ALMAX
And the line one is MIX & MATCH by SEBEL
Very cool.
And they’re not octopus’. (Octopi?) They’re JELLYFISH.
My bad.
Approximately 27 years. Thereafter, you can write a book called THE LONG WALK TO FREEDOM.
text = whack. (the font. no. it makes me want to cry a little bit.)
Dog = nice.
Makes me think of those hot fireball sweets I used to suck as a kid. Clean design, man. Background = no. Creates a block format because the burst is cut-off. Also kind of busy, but the main problem is the block format. The trail’s alright. Only figured out now the fire’s between his horns. I’d leave that whole fire/burst thing out and resub, maybe on a blue shirt, or a red or yellow one.
R35 000?
Woah. I’d like to see a breakdown of how that adds up.
PS – we’d like the royalties from our e Sempowenis shirts…and the 16 shirts we are still owed from August last year…
Look, I think you guys are doing something very bold and its great. BUT teefury and shirtfight for example have different models where the artist keeps the rights to their creation. The trade-off, clearly, is that you don’t make as much money from getting printed there. Threadless owns the rights to their creation like you guys do. Its different models…I was going to say Threadless gave you more money but its not all that different. They offer $500.00 and you guys are offering R3,7k as well as R3,7k worth of your shirts, so in actual fact, you’re probably offering a little more than Threadless. I’d like to know if Threadless give you a bunch of shirts too.
So, after some thought you’re right, for what you offer its worth letting go of all rights to the creation. Point taken, for sure.
(Still though…I’d like the royalties for e Sempowenis and our shirts! And I’m pretty curious to see how you got the R35 000.00 figure! I got printed here recently. I got nothing, man. I think I’m getting 2 shirts of my design? Hmm…this was just before you guys changed your model though. Still, can’t but feel kind of like…hmm…Anyway, I look forward to receiving the shirts. These are separate from the shirts owed to us from last August.)
Trabe> apologies man. Kind of hijacked your glory here. Great shirt, glad its staying. I still like it. The unusual placement and balance is also cool.
Keep LEAP-ing.
I agree that having the site only open to SA designers would be crippling. Leaving it open to the whole world is awesome. Up your game, local dudes. It can only help having some great International dudes to compete against. Otherwise we’re testing your mettle against ourselves, and not really growing, isn’t it? Yes, it is.
