ARE YOU A SPRINGLEAP WINNER?

shoutOut on 20/5/09 by BeeryMethod in peeps

Let me just begin by saying that when I had my first design submitted here and then chosen by SpringLeap to print I was excited. Well, let’s just squash that in a furious stomp real quick now.

As you may know, my design “Sacred Wild” was a winner and printed up for sale here way back in January 09. Some may remember it quite vividly as there was a bit of controversy surrounding the submission. It was also posted on Itself, but due to an error Itself withdrew and it went on to win here. Now, I wish I had left it on Itself…here is why >

I regarded the so-called “prize” listed here on SpringLeap as just what is posted: ONLY ONE WINNER per competition which receives:
1. R 7482.18 is made up of R 3741.09 in cash (about $345 USD) and R 3741.09 of YOUR OWN WINNING TEES! (20 TO BE EXACT)
2. A LIMITED EDITION HAND DRAWN REDITION of your winning design courtesy of our in hourse team
3. R2 royalty for every t-shirt of yours that we sell
4. Royalties on future products bearing your design

Okay, so everybody knows the score about prizes right?…WRONG! It is now the middle of May and although I did receive my small portion of cash prize the 20 tee shirts that SpringLeap said was destined to arrive in 4-6 weeks NEVER CAME. Oh, and that’s not all. So, as I actually do design work for my living bread and butter I have done the professional/work ethical thing to do and inquire about the other half of my prize (really 1/4 cause what about royalties? OMG, AND WHAT ABOUT THAT HAND DRAWN RENDITION OF MY DESIGN????)

Well, everyone (SpringLeap Staff) who was so gracious in the beginning before getting my artwork and printing it up won’t even return my emails or query about how to track down my 20 Sacred Wild shirts. This includes a good portion of the staff here. Namely cough ERIC.

So, WTF is the problem? I subbed a good design, SpringLeap is probably selling the shit out of, they won’t address THEIR issue of failing to ensure that I receive the rest of my so-called prize, and I’m left feeling totally screwed and pissed off like this is some cheap-ass scam here.

My question to you out there, particularly other winners here, is if you won and are in another part of the world besides F’n Capetown South Africa did you receive your entire winnings/earnings?

And my question to you SpringLeap Staff is why the hell don’t you offer some sort of solution or alternative to your winners if you can’t even get them their shipment of shirts? If you were some REAL business people who had any sense of ethics you would A. offer an alternative B. rectify the problem and C. know your limits as a company and don’t make offered promises that you can’t keep!

I hope someone takes notice and I hope I was the only winner out there who got screwed by this scam. It seems to me that if you don’t live in S. Africa they could care less about you getting your prize cause you live on the other side of the world…BS!

Don’t sub here if your not from CapeTown…or if you actually want to get your prize…or if your simply a kick ass designer, shop it elsewhere!

I’m out…SpringLeap you have really shallow business standards! You are so FLAT that you can’t even contact one of your winners whose artwork your making profit on and make a solution to the problem situation you created.

BeeryMethod – “don’t believe the hype!”

Wellll, I’m in jhb and I’ll say I had a pretty decent experience with AV mouse’s win. Only part of the winnings I didn’t receive was the royalties and drawing, the drawing isn’t a biggie and I’ll just sit on the royalties until they settle down one day. I hope you guys do a fix up reprint though ;)

Lock n loll I’ve had no luck with the shipment yet – will check in one last time today with my post office, and if it fails then…

MY TWO BIG CENTS is to not cut corners with shipping and just got for the best option. The cost savings can’t justify all the negative press.

That said, the most expensive international shipping on threadless has failed me twice already, and I’m probably not going to try again. I’ve to two more of their shipments which are untrackable and on their best shipping option and haven’t arrived in a LONG time. I hope it’s just gonna take long and not disappear.

Overall I think springleap is certainly not AMAZING, but the dudes are always there, and if there’s a problem they’ll talk to you, which is saying quite a lot. And if the country’s infrastructure is lacking then it’s up to the company to rise above it rather than moan about it, IMO.

@Integral – i’m contacting Rumplo NOW to discuss with them, as they actually contacted me yesterday to ask me for a feed of our Tshirts so they can all go into Rumplo automatically. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I’ll get it sorted out ASAP. and sorry as well that your other 2 prize tshirt designs haven’t arrived, but PLEASE have a little patience – 4 weeks…. minimum is 6 to 8 weeks, and very likely it takes 10 weeks.

@BeeryMethod. not quite sure what is going on with your thoughts, but sorry that you’re not happy.

1. i’ve answered every mail that you’ve ever sent me – and can be contacted anytime! all contact mails come straight through to me – Mehul is having a problem with his mail getting through (some sort of spam filter issue), but my mail is apparently reaching everyone

2. post from SA to the US takes 4-6 weeks MINIMUM but usually 6 – 8 weeks and sometimes even 10 weeks. we can’t track the parcels after they leave South Africa, but can investigate with the post office if they haven’t arrived within 3 months (12 weeks)

3. Your design is great, (amazing actually) but we’ve printed 100 of them to start, and sold about 20. So your royalty at the moment is R40 which is about $5. I’ve asked our developers pull a report so we can work out what each of the designers is owed.

4. The picture – that was meant to be taken off the site months ago as our caricaturist unfortunately is no longer with springleap

5. We love your design and are planning on printing it on lots of products in the future, and hopefully making springleap and yourself a lot of money, but so far it has just cost us.

6. We are now 99% of the way to catching up production (if you look at the SHOP page, you’ll notice that there are only 3 or 4 designs outstanding), so if you haven’t received your tshirt prize, please use the contact form, or email me direct, so that we can make sure you get it (but don’t scream at us when it doesn’t arrive in a few weeks – we can only rely on our post office to make sure it gets to you).

7. I heard story’s about threadless yesterday of someone buying MULTIPLE times and NONE of them arriving. We’re all having issues with delivery. Help us get it right.

8. Sorry again to both you and Integral. If you want me to call you and apologise, send me your numbers, if you want to chat to me on skype, i’m on esoterict – help us rather than shout at us.

9. Sorry again you’re not 100% happy

Yikes, I understand your frustration, I have 5 winning designs at Springleap and only really got my “prize” so far for only three of the tees.

The problem I think that Berry pointed out is very clear, if you don’t live in South Africa you are going to get screwed. Not saying that SA designers on here don’t get the shaft but the “fix” can be handled faster.

I for the one am still waiting for my Malicious Bear design that was sent almost a month ago.

Something that was created out of all the bad business is the site RUMPLO.COM is a good site for designers and companies to promote their stuff, and only t-shirts. Rumplo is very strick, no Cafepress or Spreadshirt or Zazzle or any Print on Demand sites. I can’t even upload Springleap tees because:
this is a quote from Rumplo.com themselves.
————————————-
We’re in the process of adjusting our whitelist. Parts of Springleaps will not be allowed on Rumplo for the foreseeable future because we cannot confirm that designs actually have been printed and ready to ship within a reasonable time for the consumer. Springleap tees cannot be posted to Rumplo.
——————————————-
I know you guys stepped up your game and started printing a lot faster, but when some of the biggest people in the industry don’t bring up Springleap as a tee design contest or a sweet place to sell shirts, it makes me nervous what THE INDUSTRY thinks of it. Maybe it should be only open to South Africans if its this hard to cater to the countries involved.
