Art?

Two statement made recently made me rather angry:

“No fuck i agree if you cant put watever u want down on canvas paper or watever wat is the point of been an artist.”

“Here we go again, if art cant say anything it wants to say then its not art,”

You can say anything you want and it will be art. You can as racist, xenophobic, antisemitic and as discriminating as you want and it will be art. But the problem with art is that it is not only seen by yourself. What message you convey will have a influence on others. I believe that artist should not be absolved off all responsibility.

The moment you decide to present your work for public viewing you influence, you engage, you communicate with the public. I believe that its your social responsibility not to breed hate and ridicule.

I do not believe in censorship. Do want you want, just don’t wave your social accountability.

I think a huge issue has been made about this where there was no big issue.

The artwork in question was found in bad taste by some, and they commented on why they thought that. It says on the site: “Would you wear this tee?” So be prepared to take the good with the bad. Incorporating religion into a design is a sure fire way to make some waves.

As for the ART argument, some people think Snuff films are art. The answer question “but is it art?” differs from person to person.
