Creating a brand image as a designer.

So firstly what is a brand? It’s is a name, sign or symbol used to identify items or services of the seller and to differentiate them from the goods of competitors. That was from the dictionary of Business and Management, so it has to be right !

After reading a few things on web I found a website called Side Road. The author Eric Delin, looks like a chop but his article was great, really simple and easy to navigate. Here are the highlights to his article on creating a brand image which I have tweaked into creating a brand image as a t-shirt designer.

1. Consider what you as a designer are, when entering t-shirt competition.
2. What you would like to be?
3. What image you would like to project as a t-shirt designer?
4. Where you are in the spectrum of style E.g conservative ———- edgy
5. Set aside your personal likes and dislikes and think what people like to see from you.
6. Focus on the goals of the image you want to portray, don’t get too wrapped up in emotion.
7. Think what type of impact you want to make and how you want to differentiate yourself from others
8. What is special about you as a t-shirt designer and project that in everything you design.
9. Find the link between your designer identity and your mission. E.g. you are currently a good illustrator and your mission is to be the next Tim Burton.
10. Be a brilliant designer and that takes time and effort but that comes without saying.

Which t-shirt designers in your opinion have a good brand identity ? and not Ed Hardy as that is too easy.
