Design the Timecode Tshirt

shoutOut on 4/9/08 by Eric in wordUp

Timecode records and springleap.com are looking for some awesome Timecode/Trance inspired t-shirts designs.

Timecode is one of the biggest trance record labels on this continent with long standing artists like Artifakt, Phyx, Twisted System & Tickets. They have had a big hand in shaping the South African psychedelic sound and spirit.

Design, music and fashion, this competition is bridging the arts

What we looking for: “The Brief”

• The design must incorporate the Timecode logo
• Don’t be scared to go dark
• You are welcome to take elements from their flyers, CD’s and website and incorporate them into your design
• Minimal and simplistic but dark and edgy

Take a look at the timecode website

The new extended time line:

We have extended this competition, so the new closing date for submissions is the 2nd of October2008

Voting will run from the 3rd of October until the 14th of October

What’s up for grabs?
3 springleap t-shirts, Timecode CD hamper, tickets for you and a friend to Timecodes events, royalties on every t-shirt sold
The winning designer will receive exposure on the springleap and Timecode website as well as on affiliated blogs.

This is an excellent opportunity to add to a designer’s portfolio

re: Jack Black Beer (& Stormhoek wine)

We gave the winner Beer & wine in April, but we can’t give after that as we were told some of the designers are under 18 (or under 21 in some places) and…

….it’s wrong / not allowed / we’ll get in trouble etc

so we’re looking for new prizes which we can give to the winners

if you know any great prizes we should give to winners, let us know and we’ll approach them

Hey Eran, Eric’s actually pretty much cleared most of the bugging issues up. Thanks all the same.

The thing about SA production is that printers SUCK.
Its crazy to think how much they charge for setting up possies on artwork that’s already colour separated and that they’re not willing to do small runs EVEN when there’s a guarantee that the runs will be repeated frequently.
I understand that with our economy being what it is everything is expensive, but please people (and I do mean printers here) IF YOU RUN A MEDIUM QUANTITY OF SOMETHING OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, YOU’RE STILL MAKING YOUR MONEY BACK and how LOOOOOOOOONG they take.
But sorry yeah, no questions. Keep chugging, make this site HUGE.

Hi AntiNexus

Thanks for voicing your comments – trust me that we share the frustration of the production line.

We really appreciate having guys like you and Sebell on our site and so active -we think you guys rock and really want to help take everyone to the next level and reward them in a huge way.

Off the bat I can tell you we have had production issues by keeping stuff in SA – people just aren’t geared up to meet our demand in SA – it’s a tough one because we really want to support the local garment trade and they are making it really difficult for us thus far.

In the future the royalties are going to be massive when we start reprinting and selling worldwide.

Right now we are on a BIG initiative to find agents all over the world to sell springleap tees and designs in a huge way.

Some of the artists have also already been commissioned to do specific work for people who have approached us after they have seen their work on springleap -so we are really starting to get designers connecte with work related to and unrelated to springleap – something that we are VERY pleased about.

Stick around – great things are happening! – but please bear with us as we are putting a lot more systems in place to make delivery MUCH MUCH faster and more slick.

If you would like to chat to me more about it you can contact me directly on skype : thebrigand or eran.e@springleap.com

I am always available to people such as yourself who are making meaningful contributions of time and effort to make SA and Springleap a powerful tool for designers.

Nope, all clear and SB has given his nod.
The quantity and product display is an excellent idea, I hope that it will be up soon.
Sites like Threadless recommend their top sellers based on numbers which also helps boost sales for particular designers.
Im going to be totally blunt Eric. ALL I CARE ABOUT IS THE JACK BLACK BEER! HOW GOOD IS IT!?
:P
Srsly man, dont make me send my mother.

Sebell knows about it – his Mix&Match Tshirt has not been printed in medium (although the other sizes look great) in June (which was a minor problem in addition to the other 2 tshirts in June not being printed).

He’s said he’ll take a different size as the prize and they are on their way over to him.

July & August tshirts are still being printed, as the production line takes up to 8 weeks to print (and sometimes even longer which is something we are working on). That’s coz we’re trying to do everything in South African and they’re just not geared up for large numbers of designs but small volumes of each.

On the Royalty, we’re printing 108 of each tshirt to start off – so the Royalties at this stage will be small, until the purchases pick up (so tell your friends to buy!). We will be building a module in the future which will show you a daily update of how many tshirts you’ve sold, so you can see the royalty’s, and also what other products we’ve sold your design on, and your royalty’s for those products. It will also show you how much and when you were paid. But at this stage, as the production and sales are still small, the royalty’s are still small (although hopefully will pick up soon).

Does this clear things up or you need more info?

We want to be 100% transparent about EVERYTHING

Well I know Sebell for one hasn’t received any of his prizes for all of the months he’s entered thus far, this extends from June, July & August.
This includes his t shirt prizes as well as the R1 per t and the miscellaneous prizes.
Also something bugs me about the compensation per items sold, without the site displaying quantities sold, how do we know we’re not being taken for a ride?
Personally, I’m wondering if this doesn’t constitute breach of contract?

AntiNexus – which designers haven’t got their prizes???

The april, may and june tshirts have been printed and are about 3 metres away from me in the stock room. All of them (except for 2 june ones which we had problems printing and are still being done) should already be with the winners.

The winners prizes have all been sent for April, May & June, and the 1st prize from July & August has already been given – the R7482,18

Please let me know if there are any designers from April, may or June that haven’t got their prizes, and i’ll follow up URGENTLY, and any winners who haven’t got their R7482,18 cash prize!

I get really upset when I hear news like this, as we are trying sooooo hard to make everyone happy & build a business at the same time

Hi Guys,

There where happy with some designs, but felt the others lack the trance feel.

Ian and Artifact will be blogging about the designs.

Ian has got some pictures that he thinks will be good inspiration.

They also want to launch the designs at Vortex, so they are looking for something that is an extention of thier brand.

shoutBack on 18/9/08 by josiestewart

I agree Sabre.
Also noticed none of the designs submitted thus far have been approved?! Hmmmm.

Also noticed that ppl who won in comps months ago still dont have their prizes and wondering if I shouldn’t pull my designs off from the site? Hmmm. I think I smell bullshit!
