@mikdog made me start thinking about a new format for the monthly competition. And after brainstorming with the team, i want your thoughts on the following. Instead of a monthly comp with 1 winner and 9 runner up’s, we do the following: A weekly comp. What you think? A weekly comp rather than monthly This is my PERSONAL thoughts – not the springleap thoughts. But springleap is an open platform, so i’m thinking aloud. Your thoughts? |

hmmm here’s something to think about – one month = 4 weeks, so currently it’s 10 shirts every 4 weeks with 1 “winner”, so that’s 2.5 shirts per week. If you make it weekly, it’ll be 1 shirt a week – output will be less than halved. I like the idea of a more often-updated competition, it’ll make the site more interesting to browse on a day-to-day basis, but fewer winners might severely discourage people in general (as there’ll always be those couple of winners). 5 winners every 2 weeks – that’ll be cool (well one winner four runner-ups). I like the idea of re-worked ideas – except that I hope the site won’t just be innundated with endless re-iterations of the same stuff over and over. I would choose critique forum over re-working stuff. Would encourage return visits too.

I think a comp every 2 weeks, like SAZ said (Keep LEAP-ing) and WaynePoo mentioned, would be awesome. Or, as SAZ may have said somewhere else (Keep LEAP-ing) 2 month-long comps that overlap each other by 2 weeks. I wouldn’t fear about losing community members. I think you’ll just gain more community members. You might have one or two that gripe and moan for whatever reason, but there’s the ‘silent majority’ (check out what that is on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_majority) that I believe will welcome a more frequent response with open arms. You could even have a poll and ask all the community members to voice their opinion so you don’t get a lop-sided view. I think THAT’S a good step in the right direction. Saz, Keep LEAP-ing! (I had to.)

I also think a weekly is too much. You COULD have 2 monthly competitions that run together but they overlap each other by 2 weeks, so a THEME one that starts halfway through the month, and the normal open-to-everything one that starts the beginning of the month. That way, every 2 weeks you’ll see who’s won in a competition, and every 2 weeks you can enter. Otherwise, the normal comp shortened to every 2 weeks could be cool. Less moolah and less winners every 2 weeks, but I think its a nice amount of time.

defiantly like the idea of having more regular results, but not weekly. perhaps every 2 weeks like IntegralApparel mentioned. I am nowhere close to the standards some of these awsome designers are, however I think thats what makes springleap different and better. although there are top class designs, the wee chap with his lame-o shirt (mine:) gets the same exposure. If its one winner, the site will be dominated by top class okies, and they do deserve it without a doubt but its always rad to see your own stuff up and being commented on by qualified guys. i agree with the – split the cash and 5 winners every 2 weeks. maybe also encouraging purchases, for example if i voted 5 thumbs up for a certain design, and it wins – i can get a 10% discount if i buy the shirt (this would either lead to ppl voting 5 for all, or being more careful on who they vote big for) Either way keep trucking the site is rocking

I agree with King C on this one. The whole thing could back fire on the site when it comes to membership traffic. even the members who exist properly maybe effected.
