From the 1st January 2009, the main Springleap competition is now fortnightly rather than monthly. The main change is that there is ONLY 1 WINNER every 2 weeks. All the details are on the prize page. If you have any questions ask below. |

Mikdog – we’ve set up a pretty sophisticated algo that takes care of 95% of that, and we also manually watch what’s happening to make sure anything the algo doesn’t pick up, we do…

There is nothing like some stiff competition to make people work harder and better their overall designing skills. Practice makes perfect.

@Tu: Hmm. On the Threadless website it says this under service & help: “How are the winning submissions chosen? We look at the top 300 designs every couple of weeks and pick out around 10 designs that we want to print based off of the designs score, comments, and the number of i’d buy it’s. Ultimately the decision of which shirts get printed are left up to us. The scoring system helps give us a general idea of which designs our customers want.” So the votes don’t ultimately decide a winner. I agree that some kid who sets up a robot voting system, making new usernames etc… shouldn’t win, so I’d like to think Springleap’s admin team view the votes loosely and not as cut & dry measurements.

hhhmm i kinda get the point from both sides – if you win, you win big, and rightfully so, but on the other hand there are guys on here (no name dropping needed we all know who they are) that are freakin amazing designers, and respect to them for that, they deserve to win – but at the same time we are gna start having a bit of a spring-leap capitalization rich getting richer, every two weeks the same guys nailing it. To be honest with quality like that they should be raking it in, but it would be cool for the lil philistines that aren’t so great to get around here and there too… however with that said i agree with the below that its not gna be 30min doodles that mommy reckons is so amazing it will solve world hunger – guys r gna put a lil more effort and passion in2 a design (maybe restricting re-entries by 2 or 3??) Either way seems cool, and im looking forward to seeing this roll out – hey if i see a dude (or dude-et) walking around with a winning tee, ill know its a fellow spring leaper ( like a secret cult mmmmhahahaha) nice 1 lads

On this topic – I think a balance between the power of votes vs power of administration’s common sense (after all you guys are the most experienced out of the lot) should be struck. So, the final word on whether or not something sees print should be at springleap’s discression, and not left entirely and solely to the votes, like threadless. And yes more different prints > more prints of one! (ok i’ll stop whining about this one :P)

I also think that some of the runner up t shirts should be printed. SpringLeap is gonna become like any other commercial store shipping out the same stuff every two weeks. When I purchase a springleap t shirt I like to know that I’m not gonna walk into 5 other people wearing the same shirt as me. You are also promoting one artist heavily and excluding the rest that maybe deserve a shot. Is there no way that you could consider printing other shirts, like say, if they got a certain number of votes?

Hi SYIK – we changed the prizes page. Is that where you saw that, as it was meant to change as that is no longer valid. Maybe you’re seeing a “cached” version?

Personally I prefer 10×100 rather than 2×500 :) but that might be just me… I think maybe a seperate competition running side-by-side where there’s no cash prize but your design could get printed would be cool – and ween out a lot of the excess kak in the main prize-money competition.

Tu – to answer your question about output, we think this new format will INCREASE output, not decrease it. In the past, the winning tshirt has sold a LOT better than the runner-up’s, but we were printing small quantity’s of everything. Now we’ll be printing much larger quantity’s of the single winning design, and we’ll be promoting that design a lot to really get it selling. At the moment, we’re printing 50 to 100 of each design. With the new format, we’re hoping quickly to start printing up to 500 of each winning design, which still makes it a very limited edition tshirt.
