New themed T-shirt design competition- 8-Bit Bytes Back!

shoutOut on 9/3/10 by Lexi87 in wordUp

Springleap.com is feeling nostalgic!

Remember 8-bit games? Think of the sounds, graphics and the all-round retro vibes. These elements connect and share a common root- the digital heritage of Generation X.

A combination of a timeless reminiscence, art expose and a culture-critical investigation, this competition theme ties together seemingly disconnected phenomena like the 80’s demo scene, chiptune music, machinima and modified games.

What do you see as the symbols of the new cultural phenomenon sweeping the world? Think of a T-shirt design that embodies this 8-bit culture – scavenging the age of the arcade and the Atari for inspiration and material. Part reminiscence, part rejection of advancing technology, 8-bit culture finds its voice by exploring and exploiting old technologies and ancient computers less powerful than today’s pocket calculators.

Think Contra, Super Mario Brothers, Pac Man and Shinobi.

So, get cracking and put your best bit forward!

Any chance we could please get an extension on the 8-bit compo? Its the best theme you’ve had thus far and I think it’d be worth extending the deadline a bit.

I’m sure you’ll get a lot of entries on this one. Sadly missed the entry deadline for the “Springleap us” comp (i often get confused about dates), but will definitely be submitting for this. Shinobi for the win. Anyone remember Streets Of Rage, Vectorman or Castlevania?
