New themed T-shirt design competition- 8-Bit Bytes Back!

shoutOut on 9/3/10 by Lexi87 in wordUp

Springleap.com is feeling nostalgic!

Remember 8-bit games? Think of the sounds, graphics and the all-round retro vibes. These elements connect and share a common root- the digital heritage of Generation X.

A combination of a timeless reminiscence, art expose and a culture-critical investigation, this competition theme ties together seemingly disconnected phenomena like the 80’s demo scene, chiptune music, machinima and modified games.

What do you see as the symbols of the new cultural phenomenon sweeping the world? Think of a T-shirt design that embodies this 8-bit culture – scavenging the age of the arcade and the Atari for inspiration and material. Part reminiscence, part rejection of advancing technology, 8-bit culture finds its voice by exploring and exploiting old technologies and ancient computers less powerful than today’s pocket calculators.

Think Contra, Super Mario Brothers, Pac Man and Shinobi.

So, get cracking and put your best bit forward!

So excited about this competition…Really looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with. Feeling all nostalgic already… I remember having full scale family wars over Mario Brothers. It’s how sibling rivalry started in my house :)

Hey hey now this is a seriously great idea for a theme competition. I was always a huge fan of the old retro games, I was (and am still) a Contra fiend!
