Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the playground! I’m sure most of you would have heard about the tragic killing of a school boy yesterday when a masked matric student dressed in a ninja suit and wielding a katana went on a rampage. This kind of attack isn’t exactly a new thing, it happens all over the world and in a country like ours where weapons are easily accessible the possibility of something going wrong is pretty damn high. So what possessed the boy to go on a killing spree? “Satan made me do it”, was the reply from the twit like shadow warrior. We hear the same old crap every year, people blame video games and heavy metal for insane suicidal/murderous kiddies. In the past few years school violence has been on the increase in South Africa and there seems to be no stopping it. Also what stereotype are they going to fit this guy into….the tool arrived in a ninja suit wielding a katana, which is a samurai sword….shall we then call him a “ninurai” or perhaps a “samuinja”….confusing indeed. LOVE AND PEACE PLEASE….everybody just take a deep breath and relax. Duncs.

I fully agree on this one. I’ve been listening to slipknot all morning and haven’t had the urge to so much as slap sebell (who works just next to me), perhaps jump up onto the table and boogie on down…but that’s another disturbing mental picture all together. High school, for the most part, sucks. Kids are competitive in terms of possessions, clothes, who are friends with whom. This kid chose a piss poor excuse to do what he did, and in my opinion this makes him either incredibly stupid or his parents were related before marriage. What sucks ass is that everything but the parents and the environment is blamed. “our son was perfect (at home) and wouldn’t have done that to anyone, not even a fly (at home)”. People are never liable for their actions, life, the government, parents, friends show us this on a daily basis. Think I’ll go listen to some Dimmu Borgier now (Ohhhhhnoooo!!!!! Satan might get me!!!!)

It’s not about music or movies..they do have an influence to a certain degree, but we are born with the gift of choice, and the prize is when you choose the right choice. So when you decide to go and slit someone’s throat, it’s all you. Music never forced you, nobody did, just you.

It is really sad that people are blaming music for this. Yes music helps to evoke certain emotions, but by no means is ordering you to go out and kill people. This is definately the parents/teachers/caretakers fault. If there was no demand for music that is so called ‘satanic’ then it would not be made. Society perpetuates and to a certain degree dictates different types of music and subcultures, it is not the other way around.

I like how they blame satanic music, like the kid or parents arent held accountable! Its too bad that in this day in age we have no accountability.. So if I go and kill people while I am dressed as the joker, would they blame the dark knight or dark comics? The worst problem is the media glorifies it and makes the next copycat want to try and chainsaw someone cause they saw it in Gears of War(video game). I never even heard about it in the states until I heard it here…

I think parents should do a better job bringing up their kids… even though we’re all super different. Anyhow, love love love to all!
