Out here in Woodstock, the Springleap.com team are often searching for something to much during the day that has a bit of a wholesome goodness to it – you know – not junk food. The choice till recently is somewhat limited… but then BINGO! last week saw the launch of The Kitchen just downstairs from us. Freaking fantastic! Chloe and I walked out of the building towards Sociale (our normal haunt) to the right of us next to the Ogilvy building at 16h45 to find closed doors. Sadly we trudged on to the only hope- the ick tearoom between our building and Sociale, when we decided – heck – lets go check out the Palms Center. Our journey was cut short when we passed the most AWESOME lil shop on our right run by Karen, Victoria, Lelani and Sofia – who I recognized from the Saturday Organics Market at the Old Biscuit Mill in Albert Rd. Now if you go to the Biscuit mill on a Saturday, let me save you some time telling you that there are only a few really outstanding spots : 1. Karen and the lovely lasses who make the most incredible salads and sandwiches. Rock on. That’s the best! So what attracted us – well the spot was just AWESOME and homely. It’s got that amazingly warm vibe that attracts you immediately and makes you feel AMAZING! Your heart just leaps in your chest and you just cannot help but to follow. The atmosphere is thick with the warm smell of great coffee and spices. A refrigerator laden with platters of carefully prepared salads, cheeses, chicken and meats are displayed to titillate the tastebuds. Adjacent to this runs the counter which is spread splendidly with lovely cakes and tarts ranging from Brownie Squared (ohhhh my word – they are deadly – take it from someone who knows Patisserie and Chocolates), lemon curd squares, almond croissants, Guinness Chocolate Cupcakes (No real Guinness beer in those – just chockie cupcakes with custard on top so they look like pints of Guinness :P ) and more! Behind the counter the gals are abuzz preparing fresh sandwiches, salads and coffee. They have the most amazing energy and have mastered the art of making each person feel like they are the only person in the joint that actually matters. And good news for the gals because the joint is jumping and jiving 6 days a week – Monday to Saturday. They understand the concept of service and have an incredible product that they have tried and tested over a great period of time. Karen says that it was quite a leap of faith going from catering and the Saturday Biscuit Mill to the so, but it is already immensely rewarding. Heck! I think just Springleap.com alone should keep ‘em in business :P They call their sandwiches “Love Sandwiches” – and it’s not far from the truth – you can tate the diffeence that is that little bit of extra care they put in each sarmie. In the menu they also boast a variety of fresh salads every day like wide rice, mint and yogurt and many other variations. You can choose what you would like in your sandwich ranging from Danish Feta, Pecorino, Salami, Bacon, Fresh Avo, Grilled Chicken and more. Karen Dudley and her spectacular entourage are high in demand on the catering scene. You can contact them at |
