Ola guys and girls…
Ok…Springleap has been up and running since mid March and there has been a whole lot going on.

One of the biggest and more interesting points for me has been the differing opinions from all the users out there. From the obvious debates on t-shirt design to the ridiculous “bust ups “between certain users who have taken serious offence to some of the comments thrown their way.
There have been times when comments have been over the top and pretty degrading to the artist which is totally unnecessary. The unspoken rule is if you have something critical to say about the artists design, substantiate it in some way. The majority of the artists out there have put hours into their designs and having someone say that their work isn’t appealing or that it is rubbish without giving some kind of reason is useless. So, basically try and give feedback that will help the artist. It doesn’t always have to be positive but remember that these cats have feelings too!

I have been blown away by the standard of illustration out there. Each month brings with it something new and improved. From Quacks Iscreamonster to Darkos Rocketurtle, the nature of design has changed every month. From my side, I would like to see brighter colours being used by the artists. As we are going into summer, bright colours are always part of the season…so let’s see some shock pink and electro green on some of the t-shirts in the coming months!

There is so much more in the pipeline for Springleap in the coming months…keep voting, keep commenting and most importantly keep submitting those kick ass designs!

I think its the nature of the beast, comments will come and go, and certain people will clash, but since we are doing something so personal by putting a design out there and hoping that we get picked is a very humbling process. Some people will complain about stock vectors, some will complain the tee is too plain, or its too commercial, or thats its not detailed enough. I think the thing that makes springleap different then the other tee submission contest sites, is that we are more of a community and not a nameless face. I know how Tay will respond if they don’t like it, and I know duncan is going to give a beautiful response even if he doesn’t like the design. Thats what I love here, on threadless you could have 30 people say its crap because it isnt the “threadless” style, or at Design by Humans, if it isn’t a full tee print, no one likes it, where as here, we have had clean simple designs win, and intricate line work and shading win, and theres no real theme we have to stick to.

And like my mom used to say, it only hurts your feelings if its true, so if someone says your designs are crap and then you go on a 12 page comment fest about whos crappier! well…if the shoe fits… lol

I agree about the comments. Sometimes though a comment is just funny… at the artists expense but funny.
Submitting your work to an open community you run the risk of being ridiculed, sometimes unfairly so.

I have seen some comments that were not meant to be hurtful but the artist quickly gets defensive and a barrage of ‘I am wittier than thou’ replies ensue.

On the other hand comments like ‘That sucks so bad you should bury yourself’ is not (that) funny and does not help the artist create a better post next time. It might just scare a future talented artist away from submitting anything ever again.

btw,

Pink shirts = the devil
Electro green = i can dig it
