There are five stages of sleep, the last of which is the one that most dreaming occurs in. I figured I would try to express the stages in between falling asleep and actually dreaming. This would be the fall. Since the adventure actually begins once Alice lands in the hole the process of falling would be the stages of falling into a deep sleep. Integrated into the design are things in the loading process such as bugs and playing cards which in the end transform into a not so fun state.
