Twitter made simple

I came across this 37 page handbook on Mojave’s website written by Robert Gourley, it’s all about how to use Twitter effectively. I thought I would share the highlights with you .

What is it?
Twitter is a short based messaging system that you can tell people what you are doing in a 140 characters

Using twitter on your phone:
Enable your mobile by going to “Devise” and add your number under “Settings” then send your tweet to 40404. If you have a smart phone you can download the twitter application.

Twitter language:
@reply= a public message every one can see it
DM= direct message only the one person can see it
RT= retweet when you repeat what someone else said so everyone that is follow you can see what someone that are following said
#group commands= indicates you tweet is discussing a particular topic

The golden rules:
•The more people you follow the more followers you are likely to get but target the right audience and search all the major players in your industry.

• Twitter is about simple conversation so don’t use jargon or other business related language too much if you want other people to engage with you – Keep it Simple

• Every community has their own set of rules and so does Twitter so find out what the etiquette is first before jumping into conversations

• The whole point is to create back and forth conversation so remember to listen and respond

• Social media outlets work best when they are regularly updated, this is not hard work your tweets must be short, sweet and sharp

• Have something to offer, a juicy inside scoop a link to a interesting article, something funny or a special offer.

Some Extra information:

• If you have a blog why not include a twitter widget so people can tweet it’s contents.

• You can track conversations about you by using the @reply feature.

•There are tons of Twitter applications and twitter fun stuff like Tweet Deck and Twictionary, see the full listing on the majave
