Noticed a problem this month with a design submission from one of the designers where their are a whole bunch of new folks supplying some very positive feedback on a very large scale, no doubt coupled with a big fat 5.
Dont get me wrong great idea problem comes in when that designers fans pop in drop a 5 and a howz it then leave the site. Without checking any other submission, no comparitive views or anything. As far as im concerned thats so not cool, its smart and cut-throat but not cool.

I would not be surprised if this sub wins it with such a large group voting 5 only for the friendship factor and not the creative value of the piece. Does it deserve the win I dont think so not this month, love the style myself great designs but i’ve seen better this month.

Now i wanna open it up to the “leapers” pretty difficult to control this kinda thing so what do you dudes and girls think? How should it be handled, we need a solution quick cause folks like Tokyogogo,Integral and many others are getting a little shafted what do you folks think?

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I vote very critically, and barely every give anything over a 2 or 3 unless its spectacular or blows my mind, so I hope I dont look lame giving 1’s…the ones that get printed are the ones that get 3 or above..regardless if my design is submitted or not..

I appreciate Springleap being proactive on the site and making sure we all have a voice, that WOULD NOT be done anywhere else and thats why I check this site more then my email nowadays!

I think keep it the way it is, but I guess if certain designs get printed, that later won’t sell, I am sure there will be a change to the way it happens anyway..

On a good note, its almost Halloween, hope you guys got some good costumes! I am going as zombie Mario I think…
However you promote your design is your choice

You know its real tough to figure this out, the 33% weight acceptance system would work but my goodness all that work just to get into the compo, shyt that makes this compo far too complex, i feel everyone should get in (considering the rules) us as designers and artistic/creative minds will sort out the good and the bad. I trust the systems in place

(on that note has their been any strange occurances with the design in question, but i suppose you cant answer that although the evidence does point in that direction because i know most of the players and the user names filling up the shout out sctions have definately not been here before or will be again).

I agree with Eric in the respect that you cannot leave because someone hired a marketing army to get their Tdesigns out their, we’re all suposed to do that as free lance designers because essentially thats what this site’s about design, win (get printed), get payed. The definition of freelance.
We’ve all gotto keep designing get better, get exposed more and wipe these mediocre designs out, its survival of the fittest, unfortunately as far as this design goes he/she’s a little more fitter in the popularity contest(even if its with facebook steroids) he/she’s definately not more fitter in the design/creativity aspect, we all know that so let the dude win it(maybee he/she’ll spend the money on more vector packs or maybee real life friends) , as designers we know who the real winners are hopefully they make top ten then we as fans of particular designer order/buy/wear the shyt out of the T’s and the numbers will prove it.

I’d like to see more suggestions myself on how to stop this in the future Goggl3boy’s got a point maybee not so literal but poor designs (as i think the design in question is) can crush other really strong designs and through the sytems, values and rules springleap has set in place cannot do anything about it, its completely legal to get all your friends to vote for you its shyt when they dont vote for anyone else or even take a look, but as cokey falco says “life’s tough wear a helmut”. and everybody go vote the design 1 and average out his/her chances(just kidding) that would be counterproductive.

Someone here knows how to stop this kind of thing in the future a solution that benefits both the designer and springleap. Tell us please i have no idea apart from hacking facebook and erasing everybodies friends and replacing them with farm animals.

I reckon a combination of the community, a panel of (objective & unbiased)judges and Springleap admin should decide the fate of the entries – Like Eric said, 33% weighting on each of those three groups. It is a bit more tedious, but in the end it will ensure the best designs surface as winners.

So i am looking forward to what you guys recommend as our priority is to empower you guys… but I also know that for that to REALLY explode we all need to take responsibility for growing the site.

Remember – the bigger springleap gets the more you get out of it and the quicker the prizes will grow as well.

Yeah – Helpless was a VERY cool shirt – awesome design.

Still – one thing every designer – ESPECIALLY FREELANCE designers all learn very quickly is that they do need to promote themselves.

shoutBack on 8/10/08 by EranEyal

But Brig, Helpless was an awesome shirt…

It doesn’t even look like the same designer created them.

Please consider this as well : ALL the major design sites send you an e-mail telling you to promote your work when it’s accepted. I really think you should be telling you networks and friends to come and vote and check out their designs.

oh, wuld have loved to know what % of the members actually votes

Hey Kingslip

as a rule we never reveal that info – it allows for further manipulation.

Last month’s winning design was a clear winner – loads of 5’s and super strong design.
