We need bigger previews!!

I believe that we live in a world where people have evolved to having pretty large resolution on their computers monitors. (especially the design community)

So why must the design preview still be 640 × 800 pixels. I think its time to go bigger. I know one can click on the image and it gets bigger, but to do that for everyone you vote on gets tedious. Also new voters on the site might not know that and will not see a design’s intricacies just on the normal view.

What you say. Lets go bigger!!

Thanks for the feedback guys. These are all issues that I have tabled for discussion, will get back to you asap.
For now it seems we will be keeping the current preview size.
Sounds like the ripping will occur no matter what the size is, but lets try and keep it to a minimum by not making it easier for the crooked designers.
Keep the comments coming guys :)

i feel it is all part of the same discussion. If you are talking about increasing the size of a preview we need to look at the good and bad points. One bad point is a greater chance of work being ripped off.

I agree with Kharma and would like to see things move faster. For the roll over comp it took almost 60 minutes for me to go through all the entries! I would like to see something done in regards to this before we enlarge previews.

Ripping off will happen, whether it’s your idea or your actual image. Best thing is to not to do it yourself and sleep soundly. I think the issue here is not how to protect the images (that is a whole new discussion on its own), but rather on the inhibitive factor of small display images.

According to me the sizes of pictures are ok.My problem is more about the slow voting gallery, and the way i feel trapped anytime i want to vote or to look at the designs.I noticed also that it is slower when i am logged in.Some friends have had real issues to vote, but it was 3 weeks ago, the site is much more faster now.I would prefer a static voting page, in which i can choose to click on the design instead of a random flash wait.Another point, mixing the 2 contests on the front page is disturbing. The new banner is awesome.Perhaps for the winning designs, replace the mock up by the real photo , with a real awesome model, would be a better commercial glance.Keeping the score, comments and design, would be cool too.

well i havent worked with the chinese garment industry…but i’ve seen stuff ripped on emptees and from fellow artists posts and blogs to know that is possible with what is there already…to me this is even more reason to not make it bigger

What sizes are we talking here Kingslip, how small can it be for them to rip it successfully?

shoutBack on 3/12/10 by DuncanBoxie

@sub, if you have ever worked with the Chinese garment industry you will realise that the current size is more than enough for them to copy and manufacture your work. I’ve seen them do it with less.

i wouldn’t want it to be too big. Then you’ll start to run into issues with people ripping the designs…i see what kingslip is sayin, but i’d rather not give someone the ability to screen capture my art and be able to sell it or print it without me knowing.

Hi there Kingslip.
Thanks for that!
I will discuss with the powers that be and see what we can do.
We have been in the progress of doing all sorts of things. Making the image larger is definitely a good idea.

Community opinion, are you all in favor of a bigger preview, or are you happy to click to enlarge images?

Thx.
