Choice Is Privilege - Thumbnail Choice Is Privilege by theKaptiv

I created this design as a metaphor for one of many things we take for granted and are often illuded by. I’ve always been intrigued by the ghostly look of marionette puppets. I felt combining the ‘movement without life’ feel they present, along with the puppet masters string and not making the legs visible offers a forced adherence that i hope, carries the point across :)

Info on Choice is Privilege. with theKaptiv by DuncanBoxie

Here is some info on the highly popular design by theKaptiv entitled Choice is privilege.

1. What were you thinking when you first started the design?

I had a recurring mental image of a living marionette puppet in
my head, but it was far, far more macabre than my final draft.

2. What does this design make you feel?

Excitement. I watched it morph over 6 or 7 various, more detailed
and dramatic versions, and because my focus was more on achieving the
symbolism of the image, the actual end style was a surprise.

3. How long did it take you to complete your piece?

Excluding all the conceptualizing, an evening on the final draft.

4. Did any other artwork inspire you to create this?

Maybe in the style of it somewhere along the line, but the idea
was born of something else.

5. Do you think this design reflects your state of mind from when it
was created?

. . . a sugar coated likeness of it. Was during a frustrating period.

6. Is this your normal style or an experiment?

A hybrid born of old and new.

7. Who do you dedicate this design to?

To anyone who feels it’s worthy of being worn.

8. If you could change anything in this design what would it be?

The big eye – the initial drafts had the face come up real close
(like being looked at from the other side of a peephole lens), but
after simplifying the design, I lost that effect somewhat, and got
left with bit of a ‘crazy eye’ stare.

9. What kind of person do you see wearing this design?

The kind that picks core over face value, collects comics and has
Tool on their Ipod!

10. If you could pick any artist to recreate this piece for you who would it be?

Greg Cappulo – Current Penciler/artist on the Spawn comic series.
