I wanted to pay homage to some of the greatest sailors of our time. Bernard Moitessier and Ferdinand Magallen. Bernard was the first to race around the world to sail solo and nonstop. He had left England down the Atlantic, crossed the Cape of Good Hope, the Pacific and went back to Europe along the coasts of Argentina. During the trip he changed course and was again heading south of Africa. He met a freighter, and relayed the short message "I continue nonstop to the Pacific Islands because I am happy at sea, and perhaps also to save my soul . " He left the race to follow his way, to save his soul. He was inspirational as he sought out the time and effort to find his contentment in life. A true unsung hero. Ferdinand's expedition of 1519–1522 became the first expedition to sail from the Atlantic Ocean into the Pacific Ocean and the first to cross the Pacific. Magellan himself did not complete the entire voyage, being killed during the Battle of Mactan in the Philippines.
