Design Welcome Home by IntegralApparel

You can imagine your own welcome home story with the shirt. For us it could be mom’s cooking, or that smell of the house you grew up in immediately brings back memories of home.

Welcome Home

Welcome Home design with IntegralApparel by DuncanBoxie

One of the most natural designs we have ever had win on Springleap, an awesome design for the upcoming summer season.

1. What were you thinking when you first started the design?
Two of my designs actually won, but Welcome home was a total different design then I normally do. More flow, and more freedom for the buyer to interpret their own Welcome Home story. 2. What was the original concept idea?
Freedom, I just wanted to make sure the design looked free, and worked well on the body and on apparel. 3. How long did it take you to complete your piece?
I never really have a clock ticking when I am working on my own pieces. However, once the main shape was done, most of the time is wondering about placement, color choice, and t-shirt color choice. A bad shirt color can kill a design. I knew there weren’t many green tees in the previous month’s contest, so I made sure to carve my niche, and it worked!

4. Did any other artwork inspire you to create this?
Jeff Finley at Gomedia. They are a great design company working with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Pepsi and many more big named companies. His line work and technique is second to none.

5. Do you think this design reflects your state of mind from when it was created?
Yes, in fact, during the design, I was speaking to my Mother about entering the contest and this design came out.

6. Is this your normal style or an experiment?
This was totally a new way for me as a designer. I looked around at other T-shirt competitions, and knew the commercial, skulls, wings, and ink splatter won’t cut in this competition, so I had to pull out something different. Luckily the members chose me as a top 20 winner, the question is, should I stick to this style or stick to my guns?

7. Who do you dedicate this design to?
My Mother, my family, and myself. This is just the beginning, and I wanted to prove to myself, that I can do this for a living.

8. If you could change anything in this design what would it be?
Maybe autotraced it LOL (Springleap joke). But I wouldn’t have entered it if it needed changes.

9. Which other Springleap artists do you respect?
Duncan, Thebrigand, Quack.

10. How can art save the world?
One swatch at a time. With the current state of our nations educational system, cutting the Art program to free up money is outrageous, and we need to rethink our priorities here in America especially, when it comes to education. What’s more important, new jerseys for the new football team, or a field trip to the local museum? Art inspires, art creates emotion, art makes us see the world differently, so there is a reason to save it.
