Crowdsourcing Designer Interview #2

Crowdsourcing Designer Interview #2

Crowdsourcing Designer Interview #2 – Maulana Yusup (aka Methlop39)

In our Crowdsourcing Designer Report, we interview designers and illustrators from around the world and shoot them some questions on their experience of the crowdsource platform. In our second interview, we feature a designer whose work fans of Springleap would recognise: Methlop39!

Who are you? I’m Maulana Yusup (a.k.a: Methlop39)   Where do you live? I’m from Pamekasan Madura, Indonesia.   Describe yourself – likes/ dislikes. I love drawing, I do whatever comes to mind which I think is nice, especially animal life.   What inspires you? Comic characters of superhero and those about wildlife (elephant, monkey, crocodile, etc) Crowdsourcing Designer Interview #2   What design tools do you use? I first do a sketch on paper, then scan and colored it digitally (I usually use Photoshop and Corel Draw)   Describe your design style? Animal cartoon style with some detail.   Where did you study design? I’m a self-taught artist. I learned a lot from the Internet by watching tutorials from a lot of great designers   Which are your favorite designers and styles? The artists that mostly inspired me are Alex Solis, Rua and Tony Centeno. I really like their style.   What category of projects are your favorites? (e.g: packaging) T-shirt design, illustration   What has been your favorite brief so far? Briefs with an animal theme.   Crowdsourcing Designer Interview #2   Which design platforms do you use (eg: Threadless, 99designs etc)? Threadless, Design by Humans, Springleap etc   How did you hear about them? I heard about them from my friends, and they told me to try and join.   What do you love about crowdsourcing contests/ what don’t you? What I love about crowdsourcing is the easiest place to submit designs, show off my artwork and meet a lot of other designers. It is really good to get suggestions and comments from them, and that can help on improving my next and future designs, and also we can watch other artist’s work and learn from them.   Has it become a sustainable source of income? There will always be the result (prize) after working hard.   How can the experience be improved? Increase prize and printed design, maybe :)
