These hoaxes are just getting ridiculous - in the long line of a litany of bad hoaxes originating from 4Chan - the infamous image-based online bulletin board, a newish hoax has surfaced : THE FACEBOOK GOLD MEMBERSHIP HOAX

With Twitter offering verified accounts these days to a select few tweeps it seems that some chops have jumped on the bandwagon and created a fictitious Facebook Gold Membership Account

Now first off - don’t you think the world would have heard about this? Wouldn’t Mark Zuckerberg have made some RADICAL announcement regarding this feature? The answer is simple : Yes he would have and No he DIDN’T.

I received an invitation this morning from some hapless wonder I know on Facebook (not the first invite of this sort from this person!) inviting me to join the Facebook Gold Membership - so skeptic that I am I visited the page to find that to get verified you had to go to a_Third Party webpage_ and spam all your buddies to join you in this wild goosechase.

WHY? The reward would be a list of features ranging from ad-removal to video chat.

And get this - over 200 000 people have joined the fan-page!!! COME ON PEOPLE!!!

How dof can you honestly be?

A simple websearch of the term “Facebook Gold Membership” will reveal numerous sites attesting to this being a hoax and siting many legitimate reasons for this being so.

One winter’s night, 51 years ago, a small plane took off from Clear Lake, Iowa and never reached its destination.

The plane crashed and tragically took the lives of rock ‘n roll’s most promising performers at the time, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson.

For those of you that don’t know:

Buddy Holly popularised the four-piece rock band and went on to be called “the innovator of early rock ‘n roll”.
Ritchie Valens had a major influence on Latin rock with his famous hit “La Bamba” and J.P. Richardson was a very successful songwriter – with a couple of his songs reaching no.1 in his time.

These three majorly talented music legends set the tone for pop culture and rock ‘n roll. Long after their death, their influence remains apparent.
