Leaving the Building 01 - TokyoGoGo

shoutOut on 4/5/12 by DuncanBoxie in peeps

Yesterday I mentioned that I was leaving Springleap to begin doing my own thing.
To celebrate my time with ‘The Leap’ I wanted to chat about some of the movers-and-shakers who have made Springleap what it is today!

There are so many designers worthy of a mention in this regard. One dude who has impressed me with every single sub he has sent through is local South African designer Greg Darroll, who you probably know as TokyoGoGo.

Greg has submitted something like 30 designs to Springleap, 15 of which have actually been printed…that is crazy prolific. That means that half of the designs he has sent through have won, that’s super impressive!

His character design powers are honestly some of the best I have ever seen.
When his Kittypong design came through my eyes almost popped out of their sockets. It was crazy unique, it had smart/amazing color use and was bursting at the seams with personality.

There was something telling me that this was simply too good, it had to be a once off kinda thing, but he proved me wrong the very next contest with El Jumpino Jalepino, which has subsequently become my favourite design from this uber-talented designers amazingly warped imagination.

Every now and then a designer submits to the contest that makes me yell “HELL YEAH”, because I know they will help take us to the next level.
When TokyoGoGo’s work started streaming through I knew we had a seriously solid new member.

Greg has become a very well known designer in South Africa art scene and his new endeavours and artwork are of an even higher standard than in the past. After all this time he still participates. Despite his busy schedule he still manages to grace us with his powers; Swooping in from the shadows to deliver a sneak-attack of supreme design superness.

His latest sub, entitled Character Packs, illustrates (pardon the pun) the exact same talent that has made him a Springleap legend.

If you would like to see more of Tokyo's work, please cruise across to his website - its freaking kickazz :)

Thanks for all the amazing designs Greg.
