OKOKOK! So EVERYBODY knows about the sensation that has swept the South African Nation : Die Antwoord aka Zef Side So who are these super crazy ninja cats who have captured the hearts and minds of everyone - from the average Joe to the media mogul? Let’s take a quick gander at what Die Antwoord are telling people on video about their group and music and then get down to the crunch. Here’s an interview with them… not for the fainthearted though - language is a bit harsh ;) Be warned! Woo! Well - you can get a good intro from the above, but check out Die Antwoord Website - Taking over the Interweb to get a bit of a deeper gander into this insane expression of South African culture parody. Basically, the team “Zef Side” consists of Waddy (Watkin Tudor Jones) (Now calling himself Ninja) aka Max Normal of the Max Normal music group and Max Normal TV, his wife Yolandi Visser (Now Yo-landie Vi$$er) and DJ Hi-Tek. What a … special… bunch they are ;P Max - or Ninja - has amazing commitment to the role and we applaud him - those tat’s are real by the way - a more recent addition for the role of Ninja. They really have accomplished what most ad agencies have been THROWING money at for ages : the purposeful intention and complishment of taking their product VIRAL. This was the first video of theirs I saw which had me rolling on the floor in tears I present you with Die Antwoord : Zef Side NOTE THAT THE VIDEO HAS ENJOYED ALMOST 700 000 VIEWS ON YOUTUBE!!! WOW! So what’s their “official” story on the video about Die Antwoord’s music? Well - Ninja has “Mad Gangsta Skeels”, his buddy DJ Hi-Tek has a PC Computer and produces next level beats and his gal Yo-Landi Vi$$er lives … she’s the next door neighbour across the road. And they have known each other for “ The whole time, since forever. A very long time… for very long.” What is it about Die Antwoord that has made them so much a part of our lives? Is it the classic little dorp they live in with the white ou wine-ous with their missing teeth drinking black label? Is it Ninja’s out-of-control Pink-Floyd boxer pants and dancing wanger? :P Perhaps it’s the SUPERLATIVE production quality of their videos which are graphically flipping awesome… It’s all of these… and more. They have captured parody elements of South African culture we have all come into contact with at some stage or another. Here’s another of their classic music videos that has blown the minds of the public : ENTER The NINJA Today I discovered that this video has had over 1.1 MILLION VIEWS on YouTube… The jaw… hits the floor. Well done guys - MAXIMUM SPRINGLEAP RESPECT. The above video depicts Ninja and his zany crew in a bit of a different light. My business partner Paul Simon (founder of YDE - Young Designers Emporium) simply said : “these guys have done it. He’s the new Eminem” - a steep compliment from the man himself. What do Zef Side have to say about what Die Antwoord means? “the answer.” The Answer to What? “whatever, man.” Without too much further discussions of Die Antwoord, their videos and music or the INCREDIBLE accomplishment they have achieved… here’s pretty much a full collection of their videos we could find thus far. ENJOY - by the looks of it Ninja and his crew are...
Recently a very cool Cape Town based blog TaxiJam had the chance to interview Ninja, Yolandi and DJ Hi-Tek in the back of a South African Taxi. (Watch out - lyrics are a bit hectik!) - Check out the full interview at TaxiJam website. Taxijam presents Die Antwoord from taxijam on Vimeo. So! Did I leave anything out - any videos I have forgotten about? Pitch in and add yours!

22 Ideas to go green in celebration of Earth Day On April 22, 2021, U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson founded the national celebration of Earth Day by holding an environmental teach-in. Today is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Laziness has taken over society; simple actions that can make a huge difference seem wasteful. How ironic. Supposedly not being wasteful is making us wasteful and ignorant of the planet we live on. I’m not asking for a revolution, though I would not fight it if one bloomed. I’m not asking for serious lifestyle changes. All it takes is a simple second to do something as easy as turning out a light or buying a reusable water bottle. Today allows us as humans to take a breather and find a moment to remember what the Earth provides us and to realise there is only one (with limited resources). Contrary to popular belief, we won’t be able to pick up shop and dolly on over to Mars any time soon. Just look outside your window- right now!-and be thankful that what you see is there and could be there to stay if we do what is right. Are you itching to go green – to do your bit for the environment – but so overwhelmed by the concepts of carbon footprints, self-sustainable, and eco-friendly blah blah that you don’t know where to start? I’ve compiled a list of some simple ways that you can go green and reduce your impact on our beautiful earth. Remember, it really is the little things that count. That’s what she said! Sorry couldn’t resist. Tee hee… Ok, now back to the seriaas stuff boss! 22 Ways to go green and save green 1. Walk!
South African’s are hugely reliant on their cars to get from A to B, but our fixation on cars as a primary mode of transport often goes far beyond necessity. We live in a beautiful country so why not enjoy it. If your destination is five minutes away, why not relish the opportunity to get some fresh air and a bit of exercise and think of how you are saving petrol just by taking a jolly good stroll every now and again. Obviously I’m not saying you should mince around the Joburg CBD at 10pm. Be reasonable, and make a change wherever you can. 2. Local is lekker! Next time you are doing your grocery shopping, examine the labels of items to find products that are locally produced. These products use fewer resources to get to you and also help boost the economy. Go for locally produced items wherever possible. And hey, this applies to Springleap Tee’s too! 3. Save water Save water- save money-be green. Take shorter showers to reduce water use. This will lower your water and heating bills too. Install a low flow shower head- This simple addition can reduce your water usage by 60%. There are two types of low flow shower heads. The most common is the aerating shower head which mixes air with the water. The other is a non-aerating shower head which does not introduce air into the water stream. Introducing a low flow shower head into your home will save you green and is friendly to the environment at the same time. You can also plant drought tolerant native plants in your garden. Many plants need minimal watering. Find out which occur naturally in your area. 4. Recycle glass Glass takes about one million years (!!) to fully decompose and why waste such a sturdy substance which can be used again and again and again (and again) in your home. Re-use glass jars for storage at home and recycle any glass items you can’t find a use for. Check this out for the nearest glass bank near you. 5. Re-use, re-use, re-use Whenever possible, try to buy second hand or used items. Instead of splashing out on a new car why not buy a reliable used car from the previous year? Humans are quick to dispose of perfectly suitable items in favour a new one. It really is such a waste. You can find really cool clothing, furniture and other household items in second hand stores all over the place. Many items can be restored and made as good as new with a little bit of TLC. Not only will you save heaps of cash and help the environment, but you will be totally on-trend too. Re-inventing old items is a big trend at the moment. Vintage is in people! Do your part! You can also give things away if you have no use for them anymore. Donate unwanted clothes and household items to charity shops or friends. Or even do swops with friends that have cool stuff that you want. Borrow from libraries instead of buying personal books and movies. This saves money, not to mention the ink and paper that goes into printing new books. Here are some cool videos on sustainable culture. 6. Get a green butt! A greenbutt is an all-natural, 100% biodegradable cigarette filter with an exciting benefit. When placed under a thin layer of soil, it sprouts into green grass shoots or even blooming flowers. How darn exciting is that! We at Springleap would have a forest by the end of the week! 7. Turn down the heat Resist the temptation to turn up your household heating system in the cold. Use heaters to warm up a room and keep heat in by drawing the curtains and closing windows and doors. Whenever possible wrap yourself up in warm blanket and clothing instead of turning on a heater. Or, if you have a fireplace, light a fire and snuggle up in front of the fireplace. Use energy efficient heating like heated blankets, gas heaters, and wall heaters as these use less energy than conventional bar heaters. 8. Cut back on bottled water South Africa is known for the quality of its drinking water so why not drink our natural H2O instead of buying the bottled stuff – which, in most cases, is nothing more than factory treated water. If you feel that you need more purification, invest in a water purifier and drink with peace of mind. Also, try drinking out of a glass bottle as this is healthier for both you and the environment. The chemicals in plastic may seep into the water and into your gorgeous bod. Glass is so much cooler. Try go for BPA free products and water bottles. BPA is serious toxic stuff you do NOT want in your water. Therefore, get a BPA-free plastic bottle or a durable glass water bottle. 9. Reduce your Vampire Power Vampire power also known as standby power, phantom load, vampire energy, leaking energy, wall warts, standby loss, idle current, phantom power, ghost load and vampire load. The terms refers to the electricity many gadgets and appliances waste just by being plugged in (even if they’re switched off). 15% of your electricity is wasted on those beady-eyed little red lights that let you know your appliances are on standby mode. Although the power needed for standby mode is relatively small, because these are continuously plugged in the usage eventually adds up. We are all guilty of leaving our cell-phone chargers plugged into the socket and out TVs on standby all night long. Turn devices off at the wall while they aren’t in use to save on unnecessary electricity costs. 10. Have a green thumb If you’re lucky enough to have a garden (firstly, call me and we’ll have a braai ‘cause I’m super zealous over-jealous) , then beautify it and plant a tree or two – or 5 – and you not only will you be creating a pretty space for yourself and your mates, will be doing your bit for the earth at the same time. If, like me, you live in an apartment and don’t have a garden, find some great clay pots and plant small tress in these to place on your balcony. 11. Buy LED or CFL bulbs This is the easiest thing to do if you’re not sure where to start as far as going green is concerned. You can get these bulbs at most hardware stores. Try Mica, they’re pretty good with that kind of thing. Remember, you are the consumer and you have the power- if you’re local shopping spot doesn’t stock the things you need- go to the manager and ask for it! Vote with your wallet. I guarantee you that the manager will get the product if you want it. You’ll probably get a better result than you can imagine. While you are at it, change the lighting fixtures in your home too. Most people don’t even realize that the fixtures in your house are probably not as efficient as they could be. Remember, when you screw in a bulb, the watts listed on the bulb is NOT what you generate in energy alone. Yes, the fixture generates energy too. So if you change out the fixture you can save more money per light. 12. Get rid of junk mail
Spend some time de-registering from junk mail you applied for – or didn’t apply for – ages ago. If you can’t find the time to do this there are services which help you get rid of the copious amounts of junk mail you receive by opting out on your behalf. This small effort will lead to a lot less trees being chopped down to take up room in your postbox. Once you’ve rid your mail box of junk mail stop wasting paper by having your bills mailed to you every month. Instead, where possible, have your bank statement, bills, and other mail emailed to you. Pay your bills online and save time and millions of trees in the process. 13. Get paraben-free products As a conscientious consumer, you need to stay informed about what you put both on and in your body. But getting to the bottom of the issue of synthetic preservatives in consumer goods is a challenge even for the most astute consumer. Parabens (methylparaben, propylparaben, ethylparaben or butylparaben), the most common class of preservatives used in underarm deodorants and cosmetics, provoke controversy because they are thought to be endocrine disruptors ie: they mimic the hormone oestrogen, which some studies show plays a role in the development of breast cancer and urogenital abnormalities. Not good for you, not good for the environment. 14. Go Green at work Portable memory hasn’t had the greenest of reputations. How about an Eco- friendly USB stick. A less landfill-bothering option: the EarthDrive is made from biodegradable polyester derived from renewable resources, including corn, and is fully recyclable, according to its manufacturers. 15. Green screen The Nokia 3110 Evolve has covers made from 50 per cent renewable material and less packaging than your average mobile. It also comes with a low load charger, which consumes little energy if you forget to unplug it from the wall. Needless to say, you can also recycle the device when you upgrade. 16. Solar for your laptop If you’re an out-and-about business traveller, you’re always in need of a mobile charging option. This backpack, the Voltaic Generator, can charge your laptop – and any leftover power is housed in the bag’s own battery pack. It features built-in solar panels and the fabric itself is made from recycled bottles. 17. Recycled printers Printers present a myriad of opportunities to green the office. Switching off a printer when not in use, using recycled paper, printing duplex as standard and recycling ink cartridges are all standard ways to make printing more environmentally acceptable. But now some printer makers are taking things a step further – the HP Deskjet D2545 has a body made of 83 per cent recycled plastic. 18. Kill the tumble dryer Dry your clothes on a clothes line outside in the sun instead of using your drier. You will save tons on your electricity bill with this small step. 19. Eat smart If you’re a meat eater- firstly, shame on you! But if you must indulge your carnivorous side, aim for at least one meatless meal a week. Hello Meatless Mondays! Meat costs a lot and it’s even more expensive when you consider the related environmental and health costs. Some studies suggests that cow farts alone contribute more carbon emissions than cars. Buy locally raised, humane, and organic meat, eggs, and dairy whenever you can. Purchasing from local farmers keeps money in the local economy.Whatever your diet, eat low on the food chain. This is especially true for seafood. 20. Be a clever shopper Buy in bulk. Purchasing food from bulk bins can save money and packaging.Wear clothes that don’t need to be dry-cleaned. This saves money and cuts down on toxic chemical use. Invest in high-quality, long-lasting products. You might pay more now, but you’ll be happy when you don’t have to replace items as frequently (and this means less waste!). 21. Don’t trash your electronics Keep your cell phones, computers, and other electronics as long as possible. Donate or recycle them responsibly when the time comes. E-waste contains mercury and other toxic chemicals and is a growing environmental problem. 22. Make your own cleaning supplies The big secret is out: you can make very effective, non-toxic cleaning products whenever you need them. All you need are a few simple ingredients like baking soda, vinegar and lemon. Making your own cleaning products saves money, time, and packaging-not to mention your indoor air quality. Well there you have it. Read up on Environmental hypocrisy Here’s 5 more ways to go green for earth day And lastly, here’s another article you may find interesting Laters Greenleapers!! Danya |

20 Downright Peculiar superstitions shoutOut 1 month, 1 day ago by Danya in peeps |

According to the dictionary, a superstition is an irrational belief arising from ignorance or fear. There are superstitions for almost all aspects of our daily lives and most have unknown origins. Sometimes they are logical (for example, don’t walk under a ladder- is that logical??) but most of the time they are just silly. Some people can become controlled by their superstitions- for example, the fear of walking on cracks. In this case, one may refer to the condition not as “superstitious” but rather as obsessive compulsive- and we’d recommend you see someone about that. Like a shrink or something. Here is a list of 20 strange superstitions 1. The number 13 It’s just a number. Yet, people freak out on Friday the 13th. Many airports don’t have a gate #13. (Like the folks at 12A won’t figure it out.) Many hotels don’t have a floor #13. I was always told that the superstition is based on the idea that Judas, the bad disciple, was the 13th man to sit down to the table at The Last Supper. I think a more rational superstition would be to fear bad disciples. This is also pretty unlucky 2. An acorn at the window will keep lightning out That is some acorn you got there. 3. Spit on a new cricket bat before using it for the first time to make it lucky Gross. Gross. Gross. In 2009, in fear of the Swine Flu, high schools all over the world forbade their athletes from shaking hands after the game. Pretty sure “not spitting on the bat” was implied. And speaking in terms of basic physics, having a lubricated bat makes for less friction, and therefore, slippery balls … okay, now I’m just out of control. EEEUW! 4. Butterflies In order to write this article, I pretty much had to get a Ph.D in butterflies… The early appearance of butterflies indicates fair weather. Got it? Simple, right? 5. A cat on-board a ship is considered to bring luck Imagine if you actually live on a ship. A cat would be a real drag, right?. All of those spaces to hide in, poop in, pee in? All of that machinery to get torn to pieces in? And who exactly would have been in charge of cleaning the litter boxes? Litter boxes are never lucky. Never. 6. If you stick your hands in your pocket while walking past a graveyard, it will protect your parents Makes me wonder what happens if I turn my pockets inside out. Or, take off my pants and wave my arms around. Hahaha. Kidding. 7. Never take a broom along when you move. It is bad luck. Throw it out and buy a new one Isn’t that just common sense? A used broom is kind of a nasty thing to box up with the linens. Like packing up used toilet paper. A new broom costs like twenty bucks. Come on. 8. If a candle blows out, evil spirits are nearby Or, maybe there’s a draft. Just saying. 9. It is bad luck to light three cigarettes with the same match Sure is. And that bad luck is called cancer. 10. Evil spirits can’t harm you when you stand inside a circle Oh, so that’s why all those people are walking up and down my street wearing hula hoops. I totally get it now! 11. It’s bad luck to pick up a coin if it’s tails side up. Good luck comes if it’s heads up In this economy, a little bad luck is worth the cash injection. 12. If the palm of your right hand itches, it means you will soon be getting money. If the palm of your left hand itches, it means you will soon be paying out money If the palm of either of your hands is itching, you might want to get that checked out. 13. Oops, should I have called this one #12A? Who gives their lover a knife for a gift? What ever happened to roses or chocolate? That’s just creepy dude! 14. A knife placed under the bed during childbirth will ease the pain of labor If I were the impregnator, I would be very nervous. 15. Salty soup is a sign that the cook is in love Check the sodium content on any can in any grocery store and feel good about how much love there is in the world. 16. Three seagulls flying together, directly overhead, are a warning of death soon to come Or maybe just pooh on your head? 17. Place a hand in front of your mouth when sneezing so that your soul cannot escape So what? Are you telling me to sneeze into my armpit or something? I’ve got to feel sorry for any soul that gets sneezed into an armpit. 18. The number of X’s in the palm of your right hand is the number of children you will have I counted. I will have 47 children. Goody, I can’t wait. Hope my left palm starts itching soon. Or is it the right one? Whatever. 19. A new bride must be carried over the threshold because it’s bad luck if she falls I always thought it was because she was hammered from the reception? 20. It’s bad luck to leave a house through a different door than the one used to come into it Shit. My house only has one door. Sorry for you! Just don’t step on any cracks on your way out and you’ll be ok. Well there you have it! Laters Springleapers Danya |
