We’re getting a ton of questions from designers asking how they can promote their designs when the competitions begin.

heya - we’re thinking that perhaps we should start holding a themed competition. The idea is that we would create a brief and the entry’s would be in line with that brief. What do you think?

You like the idea of a Themed competition, and if so, do you have ideas for a theme?

We were also thinking about having a slogan competition? Do you like this?

And which one do you prefer - a themed design competition or a slogan competition?

This will be over and above the 2 main comps now happening each month.

I like the idea of getting more prints out every month because the thought of 2 tees a month really doesn’t gel with me - decreased tee output = less interest (cos not everyone likes the same thing, and even if they do they won’t want to wear the same tee as 300 other people they could potentially run into… That’s my theory anyway) (did I mention that you guys should still print more than 2 tees a month? lol ok I’ll shut up :P)

Themed competition would be fun, they should run for longer, in my opinion, than the 2 weeks period. And as for themes… There can be millions. “Machine and man”, “Red Gree Blue”, “Speedy times”, “Dress up, dress down”, or anything. It’s all up to something that’s open to interpretation. Can have something to do with local-ness too if you guys really want to be “locally aligned”, like “Pandemic”, “freedom of peach”, “Bob mob” or whatever…

Lol please don’t take what I say seriously :P

Slogan comps are a sure fire way to get a landslide of entries, I don’t know how effective it will be though cos some1 will have to design the slogans… That’s often what makes or breaks a slogan. I love the Threadless “Bear Hugs are often Fatal” one :)

I think you should take ideas from Threadless, since their themes usually promote art. So maybe do Springleap tee, or Springleap Loves Art or Springleaping for art , or throw in the idea of SPRING into the tee somewhere, that way you can promote the site along with the tees. Summer loving, is fun, but I can see it getting over run by Palm trees, sunglasses and beach scenes.

I think the theme needs to incoporate the site itself so it’s kind of a win win for everyone.

Really need a wap version for mobiles, I’ve been waiting a while to get to a PC to comment lol.

TBH, I’m not fond of the idea of regulating the colour, unless its an integral part to a specific theme. What would the slogans involve? I like the idea of just a word or phrase, and watching to see what comes out.

I agree about the colours….That also adds an element of difficulty which is cool.

Im not so keen on the slogan one to be honest…I think it will just become an excuse to put text on a tee for the majority of submissions…

saz1 - awesome idea on the colours. so choose a background colour, choose a colour for the design and away you design.

hoodies etc - we want to move into other stuff as well, but it’s a bit too soon. first we have to get the tshirts out on time :) that’s our mission at the moment. get the current stuff working 100% and then move onto new interesting ideas
