The “labrador lobster co.” is a fictive company - maybe there is a real one over there - I don´t know it! I made cause I like the idea about lobster fishing and the hard life a fisherman has.

Hansa Pilsener was so totally blown away by the quality of the designs that have come through thus far for the ‘Special Ingredient’ competition, that they have decided to choose not one, but TWO very lucky winning designs!

That’s right guys and girls, 2 lucky designers will each walk away with US$1250 in cash.

Imagine if 2 of your submissions win, you could win a double whammy of US$2500.... BOOOOM!!!

There is still plenty of time to get your submissions through . With a ‘double prize’ on the line there is every reason to get your designs through.
Heck, even if you have already submitted, why not send in another.
Remember that you can send up to 5 designs per competition, so make the most of it!

Perhaps the special ingredient is ‘getting more than you ask for’, or receiving ‘pleasant surprises’, hehe.

Hi there boys and girls .

Seeing as though it’s Friday (yay) I thought it would be a good idea to send out a bit of design inspiration to fuel your weekend. After all let’s face it , for most designers the only time we get to work on our own concepts is on the weekend , haha.

Check out this awesome work from The Given (AKA: Abe Viljoen)!

The Iron Animals collection is something out of urban-fantasy .
Just look at the maddening techniques going on in this design!
One things for sure The Given is a tablet-flinging Illustrator-bending Photoshop-messiah descended from heaven itself.

I am totally transfixed by the rusty metallic color palette, which really does suit the Iron Animals concept. The light splattered spray effect gives an extra industrial feel , when coupled with the steel textures is a marvellous combination of elements.

Just to fill you in, The Given has an interesting story: they started out doing street culture design, evolved into a clothing label and finally crystallized into an agency for graphic design . Basically they serve as a destination for some of the most “subversive art” on the net…I tend to agree.

Take a look at the above images of mega-talented Jeremy Geddes ….seriously it makes me want to cry , he is sooooo damn good!
The photo-realistic vibe of these astronauts , suspended in deserted urban settings, really speaks to me personally .
While most of us won’t be able to recreate something quite like this…I still feel that the concept and out-of-the-box thinking that went into these designs is an ability that we should all nurture.
