Hey Springleapers! Here’s a wrap up of some awesome stuff our friends at between 10and5 have been up to this week. First off, the second creche, Sivuyile, has been transformed thanks to Xanele Van Rensburg and Write on Africa’s painting creches project. If you missed out on the first two painting days then the 31st of July is your chance to get stuck in and help brighten up Pozie creche in Kayamandi. If you love buttons as much as Jessica Faye Bourke, then check out Pie Palooza’s Button boutique Check out Lauren Fowler’s unique artwork. She’s doing some wonderful work, you can visit her blog to see what else she’s up to. Here is a wrap up of Adidas’s Three Stories campaign. Global Moguls is a web-based talent search for the next great unsigned band. What’s unique about the search is that it’s not only about the band but is also a launchpad for the entire creative team behind the band. The people responsible for the band’s identity from their logo to their photography to their music video. Want to know how it works? Read more here
Magic Moments FC is a site that recreates famous football goals. It’s quite well executed, and has an incredibly funny script (the flash loader says “Magic takes time” – only one of the gems). It stars Brendan Jack and a few other local comedians, and has the great tongue in cheek humour we’ve come to expect from Brendan. This almost seems like a follow up on the Puma campaign with Usain Bolt. Read more about Magic Moments here or visit the site Happy Friday Springleapers!

Squeeze every last drop out of your Laptop's battery shoutOut on 2/8/10 by Danya in peeps | on 18/8/11 by claudiosworld | 2

It never fails. You’re on a cross-country flight, laptop open on your tray table, digging deep into an important project when — your battery dies. As we become more dependent on mobile devices like laptops and smartphones, knowing how to extend the life of the battery that powers that device can mean the difference between three wasted hours or making the deadline. In the short term, when an outlet isn’t available, there are simple things you can do. Before you start working, make sure you turn off all the unnecessary services on your notebook that draw power. On an airplane, for instance, you’d turn off your wireless adapter and Bluetooth services. You could also turn off the overhead light in your seat and dim your notebook’s screen. Your laptop or smartphone’s screen is the component that uses the most power, so the dimmer you can go, the longer it will last. Shut down any software or applications that are needlessly spinning your hard drive or using up CPU. Make sure your email program isn’t running if you can’t check email, or that any startup items you don’t need aren’t hogging up precious battery life in the background. In short, run the fewest software applications required to get your work done. If you use a Dell laptop, the manufacturer recommends you: •Utilize QuickSet* power schemes to customize your power consumption Here are HP’s recommendations for notebook owners In the long term, a few considerations can increase the number of charge cycles you get out of your battery. For example, heat degrades battery life, so keeping your notebook in a cool place (out of a hot car, for example) and operating it at room temperature only will extend its life. Avoid charging your iPhone in a carrying case, because the case can trap excessive heat and reduce the phone’s battery life. Calibrating your battery — that is, fully charging and discharging it — also keeps it healthy. From Apple’s web site If you store a battery for an extended period of time, Apple recommends charging it to 50% life first, which will help maintain its ability to hold a charge when you use it again. Battery University suggests it in the refrigerator (not the freezer), making sure to seal it in a baggie to avoid moisture. Until every airplane, meeting room, and cafe has an outlet next to every seat, how do you keep your battery alive as long as possible?? Let us know in the comments, we would love to hear from you!

Hey there designers! How about you suggest different colour variations for your designs? We don’t mean change the colours of your actual designs, but rather give the Springleap community a preview of your design on a different colour Tee. That way, we can preview how your design would work on a particular colour before we buy. So here’s what you have to do: Click on the “Spotted this design banner” on the right of your design and upload a colour variation – it will now show up there as an option. Check this out for more information on our new template kit Cheers Springleapers and happy designing! The Springleap team

No sex for Gaga shoutOut on 3/8/10 by Danya in peeps | on 18/8/11 by claudiosworld | 3

Lady Gaga avoids having sex for fear someone could steal her ‘creativity’. She may ooze sex appeal during her on-stage performances, but Lady Gaga is a little more conservative when it comes to her life in the bedroom. In a new interview with Vanity Fair, the eccentric singer, who recently reunited with her ex Luc Carl, says she is trying to avoid sex for a rather off-beat reason. “I have this weird thing that if I sleep with someone they’re going to take my creativity from me through my vagina,” the 24-year-old says in the magazine’s September issue. And despite her legion of devoted fans, Gaga admits that she’s “perpetually lonely.” “I’m lonely when I’m in relationships. It’s my condition as an artist,” she says. “I’m drawn to bad romances. And my song [‘Bad Romance’] is about whether I go after those [sort of relationships] or if they find me. I’m quite celibate now; I don’t really get time to meet anyone.” Gaga also spoke candidly about her past drug use during a time she calls a “low point” that “led to disaster.” “I was completely mental and had just been through so much,” she says of the incident. “I hit rock bottom, and it was enough to send a person over the edge.” Gaga withholds details about the frightening experience, but says her mother was aware of what was happening at the time. “She screamed so loud on the other end of the phone, I’ll never forget it,” says Gaga. “And she said, ‘I’m coming to get you.’” The “Poker Face” singer opted out of going to rehab, and instead, went to stay at her 82-year-old grandmother’s house in West Virginia. “I cried,” Gaga recalls. “I told her I thought my life was over and I have no hope and I’ve worked so hard, and I knew I was good. What would I do now? “And she said, ‘I’m gonna let you cry for a few more hours. And then after those few hours are up, you’re gonna stop crying, you’re gonna pick yourself up, you’re gonna go back to New York, and you’re gonna kick some a—.’” Following her recovery, Gaga made good use of her unique talents and skyrocketed to overnight success. Despite her past drug use, she says she doesn’t want her fans to mimic her dangerous behavior. “I do not want my fans to ever emulate that or be that way,” says the eccentric singer. “I don’t want my fans to think they have to be that way to be great.”
