WOOOOOOOHOOOOO!!!! Yes indeed Duncan is one happy puppy! Let me tell you it is looking SPECTACULAR!! First off, it is not….I repeat, NOT Flash! YAY :D Also it means that all of you who have had trouble viewing the Flash banner on mobile devices will now be able to scope it out without any issues. One of the groovy additions to the new header bar is a SEARCH function …which I’m sure many of you will be very pleased about. Gone are the days of hunting for a needle in a haystack. It may not sound like a big thing to new designers and members, but let me tell you, this gloriously-honey soaked-sparkly search function is akin to a nuclear submarine getting sonar equipment! I would love to thank the design team and Eran for all their hard work in getting the new header bar up and running and looking so shnazzy . It may confuse you (especially the older members) the first time around, but let me assure you this is a BILLION times better and in the long run makes much more sense! If you are having any problems whatsoever please let me know in the questions section. Some of the images may appear to be a bit weird , but do not worry they will be sorted soon-soon . Enjoy and please give us feedback, it’s the quickest way for us to get the site powered up! Duncs. |

Heeeeha the Entrepreneur is underway! For those of you who don’t yet know about this super cool theme competition, here is the down low ;) Springleap and Raizcorp have teamed up to bring you a truly inspirational competition. Just make sure your design is placed on either a black or white t-shirt everybody :) Imagine what you could do with that much money …it could fuel your very own entrepreneurial endeavors! When I think of an entrepreneur I think of individuals like Richard Branson, Bill Gates and Donald Trump . These are all businessmen who have developed a product or business that has changed our lives and even our perspective of things in general. When I joke around about entrepreneurs I think about the guys who can “sell ice to Eskimos” , the kinda forward thinking guy who can develop a helmet that can simultaneously brush your teeth and do your hair for you in the morning and make it SELL! Designers are very much the same in that they can create mind-blowing concepts from aspects of life, thought and society and bring them together seamlessly….it’s almost like they have magical powers to conjure alternate realities…and people through the ages love them for it! We ask our designers to awaken their designing powers and bring the idea of entrepreneurship to light. Do you think it’s funny , does it scare you, does it make you think of somebody specific? What groovy ideas have you come up with so far….I’m dying to see what amazing designs you all come up with. D. |

When you look at a color are you certain that it is exactly how it appears? Indeed it is very common for the brain to confuse colors, or even have colors change their appearance completely when put under specific circumstances. Perhaps the most common color changing phenomenon that we deal with on a daily basis is called color shifting , or color fluting . Yep, the close relation of the color, in this case the dominant black overpowers the white , causing the color to shift and change. The effect of color shifting means that depending on what color surrounds another, a different effect takes place. If a color at say a 60% grey is surrounded by a darker color it will cause that said grey to appear darker than it actually is. If surrounded by a lighter color it will cause the 60% grey to look even lighter than it is. The best thing about realizing the phenomenon of color shifting means that an able artist can use it to their advantage. Try placing your design on multiple t-shirt colors and playing with the actual color of the design elements . The more you experiment , the more you will begin to see the colors transform with each colour change. Choosing the right color balance on the right t-shirt color can mean the difference between a good design and a masterpiece . Many of our Springleap designers seem to have perfected playing with light to make their designs mesh seamlessly with their chosen t-shirt. Suburbanhijinx and Sebasebi are two such designers. They can overlay different color halftones to create entirely new colours. While the average designer will stick to 7 colors max , learning to exploit color use through color shifting and halftones is undoubtedly the next step in evolving your designs.
