Hi there all.

With the Photoshop section of the Friends of Design BOOTCAMP behind us, the hardcore design soldiers move on to the next program: Adobe InDesign .

This will definitely be a tricky task for us, especially coming straight from Photoshop, which is a program that is known for its ability to create pretty pictures haha.

While InDesign is a highly creative program to work in, it is primarily a layout program .
Once you have created all your elements, whether they be illustrations, effects, or edited photos, you then bring them into InDesign and create a visually appealing layout .

InDesign is extremely powerful and can help you create just about any layout.
We are talking anything from a full on glossy magazine to a CD cover .

It really is an impressive program and, thus far, I find it very user friendly , with the ability to take multiple different paths to reach a desired result.

Yesterday was only our second day , but already I am thinking of crazy things I can do with it.

Looking at modern magazines I am always blown away by the creativity and thought that goes into their layout. It seems that I have discovered their secret….they all use Adobe InDesign hehe.

Considering how easy it has been for us to navigate through InDesign it makes me laugh when I think about the first layout program I used many, many years ago, Quark ….ewwww, I shudder when I say that word…QUARK cold shivers

Ok, so I don’t have any tips or tutorials for you just yet, but next week I will def put together a fun tutorial for the community.

I’m asking all you design purists to keep your minds open . Hopefully you will get to know this program a little bit better and realize how indispensible it will become in the future.

Those of you considering entering the world of print, magazine design …or basically any form of DTP (desktop publishing), better pay extra close attention to InDesign.

Good luck to the BOOTCAMPER’s who enter this new skirmish….may we all learn some new tricks and fight it out till the end.

RAMMSTEIN!

Now I know plenty of you will instantly cringe when you hear the name of this truly infamous German metal band , but you have to hear me out for just a second….because, they are amazing!

When I heard that Rammstein was on their way to SA I didn’t believe it. Honestly its one of those bands that you just think you will never get a chance to see, unless you go overseas.

How pleasant a surprise that they came to see us!

Firstly, let me just say that the Rammstein South African concert was eye-poppingly good .
The pyrotechnics, the song selection, the stage performance …everything, top notch and executed with German efficiency hehe ;)

It’s often noted by fans that go to the concerts that Rammstein do not “rock”….no no, they “BURN”.
After last night, I see what they mean for the first time.
Till (lead vocalist) was storming around stage with a huge frigging flame thrower , which he uses to set somebody on fire and blast at one of his fellow band members who is playing keyboards in a giant cauldron…. INSANE!

That isn’t even including the flames that shoot out towards the crowd with such intense heat that we felt it even at the inner edge of the normal standing section. I can’t even imagine how hot it is from point blank. Dude, Rammstein has flame thrower face masks that shoot jets of fire….how does the band not pass out?
Amazing really!

In many ways the Rammstein South African concert reminded me of theatre. Watching these guys play/perform is much like going to watch an opera or traditional musical…just with more fire, explosions and angry ANGRY words .

This is not just a concert, it is an experience ….I feel privileged to have been a part of it. One of my best concerts ever!

When it was all over, there was a palpable feeling of sadness . The one girl that came with us actually shed some tears that it was over. Shame, she is a huge fan!

I could watch these guys over and over and never get tired.
Perhaps the best thing about the concert was that they played 90% of the songs I wanted to hear….alas, no Zwitter .

Overall I have to say that despite a very mellow/friendly crowd (not one mosh-pit….seriously), the energy was still electric and we all screamed ourselves hoarse by the end.

The Rammstein South African concert in the Mother City was everything that I wanted and more.

Thanks to the legendary Rammstein for an amazing performance!
